A report on the provisional result of the British International Championship Club race from Lerwick on June 26th 2022

The Lerwick winner
Forty-six members sent 268 pigeons to Lerwick with the British International Championship Club. After a days holdover, they were liberated at 06.30CEST into a south-east wind. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.
Arthur Hardy & grandson Nathan

First open and first NC section was a yearling on 663mpm over 530 miles of Hardy and Wilson of Yaxley. The Lerwick winner is a blue hen that was only trained to fifteen miles as a young bird before turning north for 2022. The sire came from local fancier Peter Waight and is closely inbred to New Laureaat and Kleine Jade, both international Barcelona winners. The dam came from pigeons Arthur purchased from the Rick te Morsche sale. It contains The 864 and Inbred Romee bloodlines, as Rick purchased his original Jellema pigeons from Jan Morsink. Arthur's grandson, Nathan, has been taking the pigeons very seriously over the past few years and is at his grandad's loft whenever he can. Hardy and Wilson also won the North Road Championship Club's King's Cup from Lerwick.

Brian Garnham's pigeon

Mr and Mrs Brian Garnham of Butterwick clocked a two year old on 616mpm over a distance of 499 miles to take second open and first NE section. Brian's pigeon was a widowhood cock containing Menne and Daughter bloodlines. Earlier in the season it was 87th open from Perth and 40th open from Fraserburgh. The sire bred 15th open NFC Tarbes and the dam is a daughter of Bartholomew (4 x Barcelona prizes) x Daphne (4 x Barcelona prizes.) The sixth open winner for Mr and Mrs Skinner is a full sister to this cock.

Mellonby, Knowles and Simpkin of Bridlington were third open and second NC section with a two year old on 611mpm over 421 miles. Their timer from Lerwick was a Klien x Premier Stud Geerinckx hen, a half-sister to Lightening Strike 2, their double national winner. Earlier in the season this hen was seventh open from Hexham, beaten by six loft mates.

Steve & Michael Cook

S and M Cook of Barton on Humber timed three birds in the top twenty of the result with the first being a three year old, blue chequer pied cock in fourth open and third NC section, on 586mpm over 448 miles. This cock was bred from pigeons gifted to them by Bobby and Brian Gorton from Easington. Sadly, Bobby is now deceased so this pigeon has been named after him. Steve and Michael's next two pigeons took eleventh and nineteenth open on 479mpm and 442mpm respectively. Second on the clock was a two year old hen containing House of Aarden Invincible Spirit and Padfield's Invincible bloodlines. Third to time was a blue cock containing Jan Theelan lines.

G V and W Britton of Newborough also timed multiple entries with three pigeons in the top ten of the result. First on the clock was fifth open and fourth NC section and was a four year old on 553mpm flying 521 miles. The next two to time, a three year old and a six year old, were ninth and tenth open on 511 and 505mpm respectively.

Mr and Mrs Skinner of Boston clocked a three year old on 535mpm over 499 miles to take sixth open and fifth NC section. The Skinners had a second pigeon which clocked on 443mpm to take eighteenth open.

Mary Becker & Vic Catchpole

The Becker and Catchpole loft from Norwich took seventh open and second NE section with a three year old on 516mpm over a distance of 525 miles. Mary and Vic timed their consistent racer 850, in its fiurst test flying more than 500 miles. The sire is a son of Luc Buyl's Golden 025, dam and grandam to many winners. The dam to 850 is an inbred grand-daughter to Jac Steketees' The Stayer.

David Paine of St Neots was eighth open and sixth NC section with a two year old on 514mpm over 550 miles.
