First open and first SE section was a two year old hen on 1399ypm over 416 miles for Paul Basham from Southampton. Paul's winning hen is now named Miss DCT as it was bred for him by David Coward-Talbot. The sire contains the bloodlines of Daniel Aerens, with the dam containing those of Chris Hebberecht. Miss DCT has been one of Paul's most consistent racers and had two races on the north with the Solent Fed, before being turned south into Guernsey, Alencon and St Philbert with the BICC. She was then rested before being sent to the Pau international race where she was Paul's second bird home, arriving just after midday on the second day and taking 21st section and fifty-third open. She was then rested for three weeks and sent to Bordeaux sitting seven day eggs.
Wearn Bros and Neilson of Ramsdean timed two pigeons to take second and third open, second and third SE section. First on the clock was a five year old on 1391ypm over 421 miles. This was a Vandenabeele bred for the partners by their good friends John and Dave Hawkins. Next to time was a two year old on 1341ypm. This bird was gifted to the partners by Darren and Josh May and is called Giftee.
K and S Francis of Southampton were fourth open and fourth SE section with a yearling blue cock on 1340ypm over a distance of 415 miles. This cock flew the north road as a youngster and as a yearling it went as far as Rugeley with the Southampton and District North Road Federation (196 miles). After this, he went to Fougeres with the Classic and was then rested ready for Bordeaux. He contains Billy Lynch's Cassaert bloodlines.
K Land of Bournemouth timed a two year old hen on 1316ypm over 410 miles to take fifth open and first SW section. Kenny had five out of nine birds on the day and his section winner contains De Rauw Sablon bloodlines, being bred down from some gift birds from Terry Wareham. It was raced on the roundabout system.
C Harrison of Dorchester timed a two year old, red hen on 1312ypm over 412 miles to take sixth open and second SW section. Clive's hen was bred by himself and the sire was a red cock from Andy Parsons, whilst the hen came from Tony Cowan and contains Padfield bloodlines. It was flown on the chaos system.
M Skidmore of Havant clocked a five year old on 1299ypm over 412 miles to take seventh open and fifth SE section. Mick timed a widowhood cock bred from his old Busschaert family of pigeons, the same birds he has been flying for the past forty years.
J Clapcott of Poole was eighth open and third SW section with a five year old on 1291ypm over 408 miles. John's pigeon contains Busschaert bloodlines from Ray Dibben of Poole.
Ninth open and fourth SW section was a yearling on 1290ypm over 432 miles for J Fulford from Salisbury. James timed the last son from his Crazy John family of pigeons. The sire was a Gaby Vandenabeele from John Halstead and the dam was a Barker hen that has bred other winners. It is now named 'The Last One' as both parents succumbed to age earlier this year, so there will be no more the same way bred.
Completing the top ten and in First NE section is S Stokes of Wantage with a yearling on 1285ypm over a distance of 464 miles. Steve clocked a dark chequer, white flight hen containing Louella Pigeon World, Jan Aarden bloodlines. It was sent sitting fourteen day eggs.
Around the sections
V Segesdy of Didcot timed a yearling on 1283ypm over 464 miles to take second NE section. This was a pied hen containing Jellema bloodlines and sent sitting fourteen day eggs.
Mr and Mrs Webber and Son from Abingdon were third NE section with a five year old on 1283ypm over 468 miles. Alan and Gill timed a red grizzle cock, flown on the chaos system. His pedigree is a real mix of strains and his son, who is very similar, will be raced from Sigogne.
C and J Howse of Devizes clocked a two year old on 1270ypm to take first NW section. The section winner was a cock, flown on the chaos system and on its seventh channel race of the season. The sire is a son of the Ponderosa Pair and the dam is a sister to two section winners from Bergerac.
Second NW section was a four year old on 1260ypm over 449 miles for P Duckett of Highbridge. Phil's cock has had twelve races this season including Eastbourne, Messac and Fougeres.
Preece Brothers and Lovell from Abertillery, one of the furthest flying members to the west, timed three pigeons within thirteen minutes to take third, fourth and fifth NW section. First on the clock was a two year old, blue hen on 1226ypm over a distance of 488 miles. This contains Clayton Bros & Lovell bloodlines crossed with those of their own channel racing family and is a grand-daughter of their Poitiers national winner.
