Tony Barrett of Portsmouth was first open and first CS section with a three year old on 1182mpm over 312 miles. Tony's winner was a blue pied hen named Hayley Triple X. He quickly timed a slatey white flight hen named JG which will probably take second open in the final result. Hayley Triple X was part of a kit of pigeons that came from Gary Tomlinson's Who Dares Wins one loft race. Tony's second on the clock was bred from pigeons he had from John Gerard from the south coast.
Wojciech Blachut from Trowbridge was second open and first WS section with a two year old on 1179mpm over a distance of 358 miles. This is Wojciech's third section win this season and his pigeon has fifty percent of the best Brian Sheppard bloodlines crossed with those of his good friends Robert and Patryk Sulkowski of Poland.
Bob Bate of Lovedean timed a yearling on 1175mpm over 317 miles to take third open and second CS section. Bob's timer is a red chequer cock and which was his first bird from St Philbert. Both the grand-sire and grand-dam are section winners from Tarbes and Barcelona and came from Terry Gardner and Alun Maull respectively.
Underhill and Prettejohn of Plymouth were fourth open and second WS section with a three year old on 1174mpm over a distance of 337 miles.
Paul Basham of Bursledon was fifth open and third CS section with a yearling on 1170mpm over 318 miles. Paul's timer was on its first channel crossing having raced all season on the north. The sire is a son of Mister B, his second open Bergerac winner. The dam was purchased from David Coward-Talbot and comes from Brian Long stock which contains the bloodlines of Jos Thone's Poco. Pauline, Emperor and Daughter of Sars. Paul had a second timer shortly afterwards, a chequer hen, the sire and dam of which were bred by Geoff and Catherine Cooper.
Mark Gilbert of Windsor timed a three year old on 1164mpm over 351 miles to take sixth open and fourth CS section.
J Haynes of Fifield timed a yearling on 1157mpm over a distance of 353 miles to take seventh open and fifth CS section.
Stuart Wilcox of Bristol was eighth open and third WS section with a three year old on 1155mpm over 370 miles. Stuart's hen contains Frans Zwols x Koen Minderhoud bloodlines and her sire is a double grandson of Tip Top Junior. The dam is Saphire, a direct daughter of Geeloger. 3 x 1st NPO when paired to his own mother, a daughter of Paulien of Albert Derwa.
Ninth open and fourth WS section was a yearling on 1143mpm over 349 miles for David and John Staddon of Ditcheat.
Completing the top ten and in sixth CS section is M Moody of Thornhill with a yearling on 1138mpm over a distance of 320 miles.
Around the sections
J M Cook was the ES section winner and twenty-first open with a three year old on 1056mpm over a distance of 350 miles. Jim clocked a cock raced on the roundabout system and containing Willy Jacob and Vandenabeele bloodlines.
Kevin Foster was second ES section with a five year old hen on 951mpm over 344 miles. Kevin's hen is bred from a Bob Fenech Cooreman's cock (direct from Obe) when paired to a daughter of Tik and Clara. The dam is a Busschaert from Tim Rodwell.
Catalin Olaru was third ES section. Catalin timed a yearling blue chequer hen on 925mpm over 359 miles. The sire comes from a top class Romanian fancier, whilst the dam is from Verweij-de Haan.
Dominic Gruzelier of Houghton Conquest was the NC section winner with a yearling on 999mpm over 392 miles and which was also twenty-ninth open. Dominic timed a home bred cock raced on the widowhood system. The sire is White Fang, sire to Poitiers and Alencon winners and the dam is a half-sister to Bordeaux, Cholet and Alencon section winners, all bred down from Pieter Oberholster bloodlines.
D Lyden and son of Yardley Gobiron were second NC section with a two year old on 429mpm over 396 miles. The sire was a gift from Dave's friend Alf Jones of Northampton and is bred down from Brian Denny stock. The dam is another gift bird, this time from Danny Pullman of Stoney Stratford, and it contains Tornado Grizzle bloodlines crossed with his fed topper, Little Miss Sunshine.
J Haverly of Milton Keynes timed a two year old on 395mpm over a distance of 393 miles to take third NC section. The sire of John's pigeon was Harry Gerritt x M V Lint, whilst the dam was Nicko Volken x Brugman.
Booth and Roper of Tewkesbury were first NW section and thirty-second open with a two year old on 982mpm over 402 miles. John and Trevor timed a widowhood cock bred from their old established family of Albert Babbington's Van Den Bosche and Jim Biss Dordin bloodlines. They timed another two pigeons which may well take second and third section. Trevor and John had eight out of nine birds back in race time.
Peter Hargreaves of Accrington clocked a two year old on 896mpm over 520 miles to take second NW section. Peter's pigeon is a Jan Aarden chequer cock bred by Alan Wicker of Bolton and it was his third bird from St Philbert two weeks previously.
The Chambers family of Cannock were third NW section with a yearling on 862mpm over 445 miles. Their first arrival was a cock that flew just under fourteen hours on a tough day for northern lofts. The dam is their BBC national winner from Coutances and the sire was second section with the Midlands National Flying Club from Chale (IOW).
