The moment that Pieter Veenstra purchased a number of pigeons from G & C Koopman, Dirk van Dyck and Anton v.d. Veen, he had already been making history, probably without even knowing. By adding some additional (inter)national ace pigeons and olympic pigeons, he has found the key to success: he now has one of the best Dutch pigeons in his lofts. After Pieter and Gea Veenstra were elected as best fancier W.H.Z.B. both in 2009 and 2010, they triumphed again in 2011, with several provincial titles, including:
1° General Unsigned Provincial Champion ‘11 1° Loft youngsters Province ‘11 1° Best youngster Prvince ‘11 4° Provincial Pigeon champion long distance (1 day long distance) ‘11 5° Provincial Pigeon champion long distance (1 day long distance) ‘11
It was a year with a lot of hard work, but it definitely paid off. It is not an easy task to maintain your place in a province with 1,500 members, in which about 550,000 are basketed every year.
It is of course remarkable that Pieter and Gea decided to move all their (inter)national ace and olympic pigeons of 2009 and 2010 (for example ‘Dolce Vita’,’Sissy’,’Chanel’,’ Rolex’, ’Chanel n°5’etc.) to the breeding loft. This means that their place was taken by other potential top pigeons, which have shown themselves in 2011, given the following results:
’s Hertogenbosch against 2.099 pigeons: 3-5-7-8-12-13-16-17-20-22-23-24-25-27-etc… Boxtel against 1.916 pigeons: 2-3-4-6-8-9-11-12-13-17-18-20-22-23-27-29-etc… Hasselt against 1.901 pigeons: 1-2-7-8-9-10-19-21-24-25-26-etc… Pommeroeul against 1.609 pigeons: 2-3-11-13-14-17-18-etc… Pommeroeul against 1.381 pigeons: 1-6-7-8-11-13-16-19-23-25-29-etc… 15.842 pigeons: 10-54-55-62-etc.. Pommeroeul against 901 pigeons: 3-4-5-29-30-etc… Sens against 772 pigeons: 3-5-6-8-19-21-22-24-27-etc… Sens against 678 pigeons: 2-3-15-16-17-etc… Orleans against 689 pigeons: 1-2-3-12-20-etc… NPO 8.538 pigeons: 3-6-15-76-etc… Phitiviers against 615 pigeons: 1-16-19-20-21-26-28-etc… NPO 6.511 pigeons: 3-73-83-85-89-etc… Wychen against 2.385 pigeons: 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-10-11-etc… Den Bosch against 1.860 pigeons: 3-4-9-13-14-19-etc… Boxtel against 1.835 pigeons: 1-2-3-5-7-10-12-etc… Maaseik against 1.471 pigeons: 1-3-4-8-9-10-11-12-13-15-19-etc… Nijvel against 1.354 pigeons: 3-6-9-10-11-etc… St.Quentin against 1.045 pigeons: 1-2-4-7-9-11-12-13-16-18-19-etc… Mourlincourt against 8.737 pigeons: 12-13-30 (NAT/NPO) – etc…
So these pigeons have been performing very well over the entire season. One of these pigeons was also an interesting cock, the NL08-5818412, also called the ‘Double Blue’. In the past few years, he acted as a partner of ‘Dolce Vita’ (multiple (inter)national ace pigeon). Pieter always wanted the cock to be there when ‘Dolce Vita’ arrived home after a race, so he spared him a lot. But since ‘Dolce Vita’ has moved to the breeding loft, he now has the opportunity to fully show his worth. He was the 7° best cock at the W.H.Z.B. 2011 (up to now), which is great. But there is more: when there are so many (inter)national ace pigeons in the breeding lofts, you will inevitably be breeding top pigeons. It is not a coincidence that the 3° National ace pigeon W.H.Z.B. 2011 (up to now) has been bred in the lofts of Veenstra, with the lines of top breeder ‘Mr Blue’ (again).
Of course, the breeding qualities of ‘Special Blue’ are sufficiently well known, as she is the mother of ‘Dolce Vita’, ‘Chanel n°5’ and ‘Rolex’, three (inter)national ace pigeons. There were many great successes in 2011. On the national Juniors Derby Mourlincourt, the Veenstra pigeons flew 12° (from a brother ‘Special Blue’), 13° (‘Da Vinci x ‘Special Blue’) and 30° (‘Da Vinci’ x ‘Special Blue’) national. It is almost inconceivable what top pigeons this hen can breed. We might well consider 'Da vinci x Special Blue' as the world’s best breeding couple.
But ‘Dolce Vita x Double Blue’ is proving to be a good breeding couple as well, as they can be found in the pedigree of 13° Best young pigeon W.H.Z.B. 2011 (up to now). This demonstrates the excellent offspring of the ‘ Dolce Vita’, in combination with the quality lines of ‘Special Blue’, ‘Da Vinci’, ‘Mr Blue’ and ‘Golden Wing’. So the Veenstra pigeons once more show their incredible breeding and performance capabilities.
This makes you wonder what 2012 might bring. But most of us probably know that Pieter and Gea Veenstra are about to sell their pigeon colony (except for the last youngsters) on PIPA in January. They will be taking a year off to recharge the batteries. Both the fanciers and the pigeons are very talented, so whenever they decide to make a comeback, we will all have great expectations.
