Frédéric Beukenne (Bruyelles, BE): The butcher who slaughters his opponents

We are dealing here with a guy who loves to be talked about. During the whole of the 2011 season, Fred Beukenne played the same role as Philippe Gilbert in the peloton of the 'tour de France'. He was there everytime we expected him, involved in all the good escapes which brought him a few victories in the best classics in the national racing calendar (Nevers, Barcelone, Bordeaux, etc). The butcher from Bruyelle has maybe never raced at such a level before.

November ’08 : Fred climbed on the highest rung of the national podium in Ostend for his national title of Ace Pigeon Small Middle Distance KBDB with his famous ‘Gaby’. This was his second national title in two years in a row after he had won the title of 1st national champion Middle Distance KBDB in '07. Since 1999, he was classified 10 times in the national championships of the KBDB.
In 2008 : zonal victory from Montélimar, good for the 5th national against 8.633 pigeons with his 'Speed', a semi-brother of 'Gaby'.
In 2009 & in 2010 : nobody heard from him. His name hardly appeared in the results, even in the national races. Nothing. It made a few insiders doubt. And yet… it was enough to learn from! Fred decided to start again from the beginning, that is to say rebuild a new team because of his new ambitions. All his pigeons were sold at home, without a lot of fuss. He just kept a few racers to enjoy in his free time and he only raced the small middle distance races at the groupment 'Canal-Escaut' in the Tournai area. Only a dozen pigeons raced in widowhood.
And the fact that people asked about his results made him smile. He didn't care at all. Because he knew that he would hit hard really soon. Really hard.
During all the weekends of the 2011 season, from 300 until 1.000 kilometres, the name Beukenne was written at the top of each result. His profession (he runs a butchers) may have facilitated it! Because it seems that he was skilled in slaughtering his opponents and making his pigeons race faster! In the lofts of Frédéric, the ‘Gaby’ dynasty was trying to leave an indelible mark. She was strenghtened with new purchases such as pigeons from Frans Sablon and he was already reaping the rewards. The pigeons from Noel Peiren from Zedelgem and those of his friend Stéphane Defoort from Maubray (who owns a great deal of quality in his lofts) were also a great help. The first clocked pigeon from Bordeaux was even ringed by his friend!

In Bruyelle, Fred changed his objective. He decided to stop with the small middle distance to enter his pigeons into the national races, the national long distance races being his new objective. With the desire to shine. That's why the best racers were basketted for the races where they had the opportunity to win a top prize. He also decided to finish with the 'eternal hope' which, in the past, were basketted further to see if they had the necessary skills to become top racers. Now, they will be directly removed from the loft.

Pedigree

Father : 'Son Gaby 093/08' (BE 08-9040093), as son of the super crack 'Gaby' who was crowned 1st National Ace Pigeon Middle Distance KBDB '07 with prizes like : 1st Châteauroux 611 p., 1st Châteauroux 208 p., 1st Châteauroux 175 p., 1st Pithiviers 292 p. & 20th Bourges 3.024 p. The 'Gaby' was later sold. His father was the 'Vandenabeele 698/03' who, as his name says, comes directly from the great master Gaby Vandenabeele from Dentergem. He is a son of the pair 'Noel x Het Tourske'. The mother of 'Gaby' is 'Orchidée II', daughter of the basis cock, the 'Simpson' from '97 who was a strong performance pigeon in the '90's. He was coupled with 'Orchidée'.
The mother of the 'Son Gaby' is the 'Scarlette 374/07', a hen from Casaert-Sénéchal who played a leading role for the title of National Champion Middle Distance Youngsters KBDB. She's a daughter of the super pair 'Slim' x 'Gerda'.
Mother : 'Blue white pen 095/08' (BE 08-9040095), daughter of the super racer 'The Speed 00/05' who won the 5th national Montélimar and who is known to be one of the best breeders of the breeding loft of the Beukenne colony. He is a son of the 'Casaert' coupled with... 'Orchidée II' who is... the mother of 'Gaby' ! The 'Speed' was here coupled with the '099/07', a daughter of 'Ultra 113/99', one of the best racers of the Casaert colony before being sold a few years back, coupled with the '053/04' who was crowned as 1st National Ace Pigeon Middle Distance '06 in France. This hen is a pure Casaert as her parents were directly bought in Néchin. The top of the top on paper with, as a result, a super promising yearling.

She comes from two pigeons from Frédéric Fernand from Bléharies ('064/05' X '067/05'), a super loft from the area in the '90's. The '064/05' is a grandson of the 3rd International Perpignan and the '067/05' is also the mother of 'Frédérica' who won the 9th semi-national St Vincent '07.

Gaby
In 2008, Fred won the prestigious title of National Ace Pigeon Small Middle Distance KBDB with the 'Gaby' (BE 05-9011074), a pigeon with the noble blood of the Vandenabeele running in his veins as his father was bought in Dentergem. His mother is the 'Orchidée II', one of the best breeding hens in Bruyelle.

While writing this report, the line of 'Gaby' perform very well in others lofts. In addition to the performances won in the loft in Beukenne, the pigeons coming from this line were a great help to those who purchased them. Here is proof :

Johny & Yves Jonckers from Linter, national champion of the extreme middle distance KBDB in 2011, had the chance of discovering a super young hen in 2011. The '790/11' (BE 11-2060790) won the following results:

201th Soissons 2518 pigeons
256th Toury 1118 pigeons

What can we learn from her pedigree ? Her father, the '499/09', is a direct son of 'Gaby' coupled with the 'Blue Queen 753/07', half-sister of the '485/05' who won the 2nd national Bourges from 10.759 pigeons at Jonckers and who is herself a descendant of the 'Wittenbuik' from Vandenabeele.

Approximatively 50 kilometers from Bruyelle, Adrien Mirabelle from Quaregnon performed really well with his pigeons. In 2009, he had the opportunity to raise a dozen eggs coming from the widowers of Frédéric just before their season. From these eggs, there was a couple out of the '049/08', a... full brother of 'Gaby'. The '624/09' born out of these eggs. She was directly placed into the breeding loft where she was a direct hit as she became the mother of 'Denis 250/11' who won :

The '005/11' (BE 11-9055005), a grand-daughter of 'Gaby', showed her skills in the racing loft. Judge for yourself :

46th Toury - Les 15 544 pigeons
151th Toury - Les 15 708 pigeons

502th La souterraine - Zone A 6.010 pigeons

Her brother, the '032/11' (BE 11-9055032), did the same :

51th Dourdan - Les 15 637 pigeons
2nd Toury - Les 15 544 pigeons
40th Orléans - Les 15 731 pigeons

79th Bourges - Derby Hainaut 1.772 pigeons
70th Bourges - Provincial 2.237 pigeons

242th Argenton - National 20.383 pigeons

Let's finish with the '067/08' (BE 08-9040067) who is another brother of 'Gaby'. Best times of his season were:

79th Toury - Les 15 643 pigeons
3rd Argenton - Tournai 264 pigeons
15th Argenton - Derby Hainaut 879 pigeons
5th Argenton - Provincial 1.017 pigeons
47th Argenton - CFW 3.286 pigeons
184th Argenton - National 11.001 pigeons

 2nd Bourges - Tournai 189 pigeons
4th Bourges - Derby Hainaut 966 pigeons
5th Bourges - Provincial 1.091 pigeons
19th Bourges - CFW 3.672 pigeons
14th Bourges - Zone A 2.108 pigeons
39th Bourges - National 9.781 pigeons

Good blood doesn't lie ! And if this 'dynasty' continue to develop in other lofts, then the line of this exceptional pigeon will probably destroy everything in the pigeon pelotons!

Fred, congratulations on this super season and good luck for next year in the long distance national calendar!
