In this year’s edition of the Victoria Falls OLR, 30 different countries are participating. The total number of pigeons that were collected is 3720. 79 birds were lost during their period in quarantine. That’s 2.1 % of the total intake.
322 birds got lost at Victoria Falls during the orientation period. That’s about 8.7% of the total intake.
So when the loft managers started tossing the birds there were still 3319 pigeons or 89.2% of the total intake present at the lofts in Zimbabwe.
The first hotspot of this season is scheduled for Saturday, May 25. The pigeons have had 33 flights up to this first hotspot. This means they have flown 1504 km (934 miles) up to hotspot 1, so they should be ready! The number of losses during training and racing so far is 631 pigeons, that’s 19 % of the number of pigeons that were at the lofts when they started tossing the birds.
