Federal victory from St-Junien against 6,602 pigeons for Alexandre Margris (Gennes-Ivergny, FR) & highest speed of 8,939 pigeons!

After selling their best pigeons in early 2016, the loft of Alexandre & Paul Margris had made it back in the spotlight thanks to a real demonstration in the race from St-Junien.

After the auction of their best pigeons, such as 'Olympic Timoko', 'Real de Lou' and the others (all the pigeons that helped build the reputation of the Margris loft), everybody was wondering if Alexandre Margris would be able to return to his previous level. It has to be said that he spent several years building up a strong colony with deliberate investments and spending a lot of time picking the right pigeons. Many of his opponents were confident he would not be able to come back. But Margris is back in business and his current level of performance reminds us of his memorable achievements from previous years, in which he dominated the field. The first big race of the season from St. Junien on27th of May saw another overwhelming performance of Etienne's racing team:

27/05 St-Junien (492 km) federal – 6,202 olds:

His 11th federal victory

The French federal races are quite similar to the national races in Belgium. These are typically races of more than 400 kilometers, and some of the very best pigeon fanciers from France basket their pigeons for these races with great enthousiasm. This is already the 11th federal victory for father and son Margris since 2010, which is probably a record in France. Take a look at their palmares, which now includes their latest victory from St-Junien:

1st Poitiers 10,980 youngsters'11 (449 km)
1st St Junien 8,415 old birds '14 (493 km & highest speed from 11,972 pigeons)

What is particularly remarkable about 'Hermine d'Illius' is that she was bred out of two Olympic pigeons coupled together: 'Olympic Illius' & 'Olympic Bahia'. Both have been sold to the Far East during March 2016 auction, and it shows that the buyers have picked the right ones.

The future

In France, there are now dozens of young talents ready to excel in the years to come. Alexandre Margris (who just turned 31 this year), with the help of his father Paul, is representing the future of pigeon racing in France. He stands for a generation of 30 to 40 year old fanciers ready to take over France. Of course, he is not the only one to excel but he is probably the fancier with the most extensive palmares. But others will come soon. He is also the most ambitious: a short while ago he decided to live his dream by becoming a full time pigeon fancier. It was a bold decision, as he is probably the first one in his country who states his ambitions so clearly. For example, the money earned from his total auction was not spent on a car or a house but rather on purchasing of new pigeons. He obtained some descendants of the current-best bloodlines from Europe. Always with that same goal in mind: to make progress and to maintain his domination. Alexandre deserves our total respect. Congratulations to the whole family for this new big victory that won't be his last for sure! Good luck for the next races.
