FCI World Championship (Nitra, Slovakia): Official races - update: race 3, race 4 and final race

The FCI has issued information on the 3rd and 4th official race of the FCI World Championship, as well as on the final race taking place this Sunday.

Final race:

The Slovakian Federation of Racing Pigeon Fanciers invites all participants, friends and pigeon fanciers to attend the final race of the FCI World Championship 2012. This race will be held on September 16, 2012. The pigeons will be liberated at Chomutov (Czech republic) for a distance of 420 km.

Our one loft race is located in the most silent place of the big exhibition area, viz. the Agrokomplex. That weekend an international car exhibition called AUTOSALÓN 2012 is also held. Many thousands of visitors are expected during this event and we hope that many of them will join us to the watch the final race.

Watch the video of the second race here.

In spite of very good weather it was not an easy race. When we compare it with races of the same organisation (same management, loft managers, etc.) taking place in the past years, we can say that racing this seasson is really hard. Not only for one loft races but also for club and provincial races in central Europe.

The third race will take place next week (on Monday or later). It depends on the pigeons' health and flying condition and on the weather conditions. We will keep you informed.

For more information please visit the official website of the World Championship 2012.

Race 1:

The first official race has been completed (Saturday 25th of August 2012). Under a blue sky with a west wind, the pigeons were released at 6:30 in Žilina (Turie). After a few circles they flew home in the right direction.

At 8:11 only 1 pigeon had arrived. It took more than six minutes until the next pigeons (4) arrived. It seemed to be a disaster. When hearing about catastrophic training races in some provinces in Slovakia, we waited with pounding hart for our pigeons to arrive home safely... Fortunately one minute later a group of around 30 pigeons arrived from an easterly direction and one minute later another group of about 100 pigeons.

Now the clocking list is divided - competition for old fanciers and competition for young fanciers.

The first race was part of the official program of the biggest agricultural fair in Slovakia (the loft is situated in the beautiful area of this exposition centre). Many visitors (circa 60,000!) visited the fair, which was open four days, and plenty of them came to the lofts to look inside. It is the best promotion of our sport - to show pigeons to the public as inteligent animals. We made a short video of those days. Enjoy it!
