2013 was yet another successful season for Antoine and Rudi De Saer (Ruiselede, BE)

The De Saer pigeon family was back in the game this season. We all know that they have a collection of pigeons of excellent quality but you have to be a very talented fancier to perform at a top level, race after race, for years on end.

They have won 21 victories this season, including four first provincial prizes and two first prizes in the zone. They did great in the national races as well; six pigeons finished in the top 22 in the national competition this season.

Rudi De Saer

Rudi has been running the loft on his own after the passing of his father but that did not influence the performance of his pigeons. He has a down to earth approach and he competes mainly in the national races with the old birds and the yearlings. His loft houses about 60 racing pigeons (30 old birds and 30 yearlings) and he has raced five hens this season as well. His young birds are trained regularly and he wants them to develop gradually first of all. He does not expect them to win prizes yet. By the end of the year he makes a selection based on their origins and their appearance. This appears to be a good approach, given the excellent results of his yearlings this season. The pigeons that did not perform well as young birds have now become the most successful pigeons in the loft of De Saer. This pigeon family consists for 95% of pigeons of Vandenabeele, combined with pigeons of Gino Clique from Wevelgem, Vancauwenberghe-Ally and Gyselbrecht-Madeirra from Ruiselede.

The stars of 2013

It would be impossible to discuss all De Saer pigeons that were successful this season. We have selected two of them:

De Favoriet

De Favoriet BE11-3123742 is a cock with 100% Vandenabeele origins. He stems from the world famous Wittenbuik on his father's side. This Wittenbuik has bred a countless number of champions worldwide. His dam is Bliksemgirl of Rik Cools with 100% Vandenabeele roots as well. She is the granddaughter of Bliksem, winner of Poitiers 1st/ 1,448, Châteauroux 2nd/ 4,662 and Ruffec 4th/ 1,778. New Tours 802/10

The New Tours BE10-3020802 was without doubt one of the great champions in this loft. He is a three year old cock with pure Vandenabeele origins. His sire Zoon Groten was second Provincial Ace Pigeon Long Distance 2006, has won top prizes from Châteauroux, Limoges and Brive and he is the sire of the first National Souillac 2012. His dam is a 100% Vandenabeele breeding hen and she is the dam of Antonio (First Nat. Souillac 2012), Tours, Bleken, Close and New Tours. He originates from Wittenbuik and Kleinen (two world-famous pigeons of Gaby Vandenabeele) both on his mother's side and his father's side. He won a 13th national from Souillac as first nominated pigeon. He has won five top 100 prizes (including three per 20), one prize per ten, two prizes per 15, 1 prize per 30, 2 prizes per 40 and one prize per 50 in a total of 12 national races. This is something only a few pigeons have been able to achieve. You can take a closer look at his pedigree here.
