A report on the Central Southern Classic Flying Club race from Wakefield on 28th May 2022

Paul Murrell
138 members sent 1,776 pigeons to Wakefield with the Central Southern Classic Flying Club. They were liberated at 08.30CEST into a light north-westerly breeze. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.

Paul Murrell of Poole timed a two year old on 1736.2ypm over 203 miles to take first open and first SW section. Paul's pigeon, now named Good Omens is a Vandenabeele cock bred down from Mel and Sure King, A Lawley and M and D Evans bloodlines. Paul sent three and his first home was his most fancied bird. 

Graham Matthews

Graham Matthews of Fareham was second open and first SE section with a three year old on 1736.1ypm over a distance of 194 miles. Graham's blue bar cock has raced north, south and west this season. The sire is a Lindelauf from a son of The General x Benjamen Hen of Foxwood Stud. The dam is a daughter of drum x Van Dorp cock, a gift from john Machin of Stoke on Trent. 

Lanahan & Gerard

Lanahan and Gerard of Poole clocked a two year old on 1724ypm over 201 miles to take third open and second SW section. The partners timed another pigeon, a yearling on 1681ypm to also take third SW section. First on the clock was a half brother to their Coutances winner Dark Flo, where the dam was paired to King Kong, a son of Zwarte Louders 1st international St Vincent. Second to time was a great granddaughter of Zwarte Louders when crossed with a Belgian hen. They were both sent on the natural system. 

Ede & Family

Darren Ede and Family of Southampton timed three pigeons to take fourth, fifth and sixth open, second third and fourth SE section. First on the clock was a two year old, flying 192 miles on 1720ypm. Next to time on 1709ypm was a yearling, closely followed by another yearling on 1708ypm. First to time was a hen bred from a Van Loon cock left to them by their late friend Dave Johnson. The dam of this one is a daughter of John Crehan's wonder cock Prodigy and contains the best Hooymans bloodlines. Second on the clock was a direct daughter of champion cock Heartbreaker, bought from Robbie Pugh's clearance sale. 

Mr/s John Drain

J and M Drain of Fareham were seventh open and fifth SE section with a yearling on 1702ypm over a distance of 195 miles. John and Matt timed a hen, the sire of which was a Formula One Frans Zwols cock, whilst the dam contains Hendricks bloodlines. It was raced on the chaos system. 

Lee Patterson's pigeon

Lee Patterson of Portsmouth clocked a yearling on 1696ypm over 196 miles to take eighth open and sixth SE section. Lee timed a roundabout hen bred out of two yearlings from his race team. The sire was a Geerinck that he purchased at Houten and the dam was a Geerinck x Sablon Albrecht. 

Kevin & John Zerafa

K and J Zerafa of Portsmouth were ninth open and seventh SE section with a two year old on 1692ypm over 198 miles. Kevin's first pigeon contains 100% Mark Gilbert bloodlines being a full brother of Southfield Supreme Junior when paired to a daughter of Starlight and Melissa. He had another four pigeons drop shortly afterwards. 

Wearn Bros & Neilson bird

Completing the top ten and in eighth SE section are Wearn Bros and Neilson of Ramsdean with a yearling flying 186 miles on 1690ypm. The partners had another three yearling time shortly afterwards. First on the clock was bred by James and Peter Parker and the second to time contains Syndicate L:ofts bloodlines. Third and fourth were bred by Darren and Josh May and Matt Munslow respectively. 

Around the sections 

Philip Duckett

P Duckett of Highbridge was the NW section winner with a yearling on 1668ypm over a distance of 180 miles. Philip timed a roundabout pigeon that had previously been raced from the east with the West of England Combine. 

Brian Millard

B Millard of Temple Cloud was second NW section with a yearling flying 169 miles on 1654ypm. Brian timed a widowhood cock, the sire of which is a son of his combine winner when paired to a Dr Brockamp hen bred by Jutla Brothers. The dam was bred by S and V Miles. 

Eddie Malone

The NE section winner was E Malone from Newbury with a yearling on 1660ypm over 156 miles. Eddie timed a pigeon he bought as a youngster from Wright Brothers of Doncaster. It is his first full season back in the sport after more than thirty years away. 

Sonja Hames

Britton and Hames of Reading were second NE section with a two year old on 1550ypm over 152 miles. Kirk and Sonja timed a chequer cock the sire of which is bred from Mark Gilbert's Jellema and the dam came from Nigel Langstaff's The Special One.
