The Van Muylder-Noël-Demul combination is quite a name and we would like to introduce them to you. It was in 2010 when Nico Van Muylder and the Demul brothers (Erik is an excellent loft caretaker and Franky and Mark supported him) decided to work together. This team took a second prize in the provincial championship young birds 1+2 and an international title of First Ace Pigeon in the Princess Cup of the FCI One Loft Race in Thailand. Eddy Noël joined the team in late 2010 and his experience and the introduction of pigeons of Team Noël-Willockx helped turn 2013 in a marvellous first season for the new Van Muylder-Noël-Demul combination. They won two national wins in Zone B1 (Bourges II & Issoudun), three provincial first prizes (Châteauroux II, Issoudun and Nevers) and 39 wins at club level from 13 (!) different release sites. These numbers clearly indicate that this is a true all round pigeon loft!
From left to right: the Demul brothers, Nico Van Muylder and Eddy Noël
Eddy Noël sets the course in terms of the feed and the daily caretaking of the pigeons. General Manager Nico Van Muylder closely follows his advice and does everything that needs to be done. Erik Demul takes care of cleaning the lofts every day. The fanciers from Buggenhout are looking for pigeons that can take a beating, because the old and young hens and cocks are all raced at a weekly basis. Pigeons that cannot cope are out of the team. Only the strongest pigeons will make it to the end of the season and they form the basis for next year. The fanciers agree that this is the only way to achieve a good level of performance in pigeon racing for an extended period of time. Both Nico (a former cyclist) and Eddy (a former athlete) have been top level sportsmen and they know it takes great motivation, a lot of hard work, an aim for perfection and the will to win to make it to the top in any sport. They try to apply this in pigeon racing as well. After all, you cannot be successful without making an effort.
The achievements of 2013 suggest that they have taken the right approach. These are their top 20 finishes at national and zonal level:

Latebred Trees was bred from a brother of Argentonneke (1st Prov. Argenton) and Ave Regina (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance), paired to an inbreed pigeon of stock '118/92' (Santens brothers, Oudenaarde) x '911/96' (the line of Miljonair R&X Verstraete, Oostakker). This stock pair is one of the cornerstones of this loft! Klik hier voor de pedigree van Blue Lady.
National Ace Pigeons
Leentje - BE12-2107443 - 6th Nat. Ace Pigeon Extreme Middle Distance KBDB yearlings
Leentje performed at a high level throughout 2013. She did not miss a prize in the first seven national races of 2013, except for the last race from La Souterraine I. She was not basketed from Bourges II but she managed to win three top prizes from Argenton II, Issoudun and La Souterraine II, after which it was time for a break. This type of pigeon should become the trademark of the Van Muylder-Noël-Demul combination. Leentje was in excellent form right at the start of the season: she won a 5th Prov. Blois against 2,077 yearlings two weeks before the start of the national races. These are her best results:
2nd Prov. Montluçon 4,817 yearlings - 759th Nat. 21,827 yearlings 4th Prov. Châteauroux 4,657 yearlings - 56th Nat. 19,691 yearlings 5th Prov. Blois 2,077 yearlings 5th Prov. Eddy Noël (left) and Ivan Willockx
The name of team Noël-Willockx has been mentioned a few times already, and that is because the Van Muylder-Noël-Demul combination owes a lot to the pigeons of this team. Eddy Noël has been playing very well in recent years, under the name of Van Hoeck-Noël. His young birds did great in 2013 with, for instance, a first Prov. Bourges against 6,871 young birds. However, Eddy has a busy job as a food advisor for Matador/Backs, which means he is unable to spend as much time in his loft as he would like. He decided to adopt a different approach in 2013 and that was the start of Team Noël-Willockx, which consists of two close friends working together. Eddy Noël and Ivan Willockx are the best of two worlds: Eddy has been a successful pigeon fancier for years and Ivan is a former professional football player. The two fanciers aim for perfection and for the very top. They have a lot of top quality pigeons in their breeding loft but they lack the time to get the most out of them. They concluded that their pigeons would perform at their best when raced from other lofts. Most of their pigeons are now raced from the lofts of Van Muylder-Noël-Demul; some other racing birds were transferred to the lofts of Ariën-Dekeyzer, Serge D’hondt en P. & J. Roziers.
The pigeon breed of Team Noël-Willockx is founded on the solid pigeon family of Domien Van Hoeck and Eddy Noël. They had one common goal: to create a pigeon family with high resistance and capable of competing in all races of up to 700km. Eddy has managed to preserve the qualities of his stock pigeons and to incorporate them in his existing family using inbreeding and family crossings. This breed is heavily based on two bloodlines that were crossed to the ‘911’ hen:
- The line of the 118/92 cock (BE92-4370118) from the Santens brothers in Oudenaarde. The 118/92 is a grandson of Miljonair of R & X Verstraete.
- The Bourges bloodline is founded on two grandsons (particularly the 'De 425' BE98-2254425) and three granddaughters of the First National Bourges of the Delellio brothers (Vilvoorde). The 433 cock BE98-2254433 is closely related to this line as well; he is a grandson of the 1st Provincial Argenton, which is in turn a granddaughter of the 1st National Bourges. He is a direct son of the 1st interprovincial Vierzon and he comes from the loft of the Delellio brothers (Vilvoorde) as well.
- These two lines were then crossed with the 911 hen BE96-4177911, as well as the 118/92, a grandchild of Miljonair of R & X Verstraete (Oostakker).
It is thanks to the Santens origins that these pigeons can cover longer distance races, while the bloodlines of Verstraeten and Delellio have made them fast as well. That is why Eddy has been using these bloodlines to further develop his pigeon family. He has been using family crossings and inbreedings to maintain the quality of his breed. A fancier cannot rest on his laurels and that is why Eddy and Ivan are continuously looking for reinforcements. They have obtained direct pigeons from the following fanciers for their breeding loft in Baasrode:
-Jef, Luc and Nadia Houben (Itegem)
-Gaston Van de Wouwer (Berlaar), grandchildren of Kaasboer
-Jos and Jules Engels (Putte)
-Gaby Vandenabbeele (Dentergem)
-Patrick and Dimitri Houfflijn (Wortegem-Petegem)
-Marc and Gerard Santens (Oudenaarde)
-Steven Van Breemen (Hilversum)
-Raoul and Xavier Verstraete (Oostakker)
-Marcel Aelbrecht (Lebbeke) and Paul Aelbrecht (Denderbelle)
-Paul and Jelle Roziers (Berlaar)
-Rudi De Saer (Ruiselede)
-Ariën-De Keyzer (Tielt-Winge)
The best way to judge the quality of a breeding loft is by looking at the achievements in other lofts. That is why we include a list of all the prizes that were won with direct Team Noël-Wilockx pigeons in 2013, only including top 20 prizes at national level and in the zone:
3rd nat. Zone B1 Châteauroux (502km) 1,637 young birds 3rd nat. Zone B1 Nevers (455km) 1,785 young birds 4th nat. Zone B2 Nevers (475km) 2,453 young birds (raced by P&J Roziers) 5th nat. It appears that team Noël-Willockx has had a great season by breeding pigeons that were very successful in other lofts. They will continue to be using this approach in 2014 and they are now looking for new lofts from which their pigeons will be raced next year.
