A report on the British Barcelona Club young bird race from Ilkeston on 20th August 2022

31 members sent 512 young birds to Ilkeston with the British Barcelona Club. They were liberated at 10.00CEST into a light south-westerly breeze. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.

First open and first section E was a youngster on 1715ypm over 92 miles for Mellonby, Knowles and Simpkin of Bridlington. The partners timed a further five young birds to also take second, third, fourth, fourteenth, and thirty-third open and the next five section places. 

John Adams

John Adams of Watford timed eight pigeons to take fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth open and the first eight places in section D. First on the clock was a young bird on 1438ypm over 101 miles. This blue chequer hen is a grand-daughter of Supreme Junior, first BICC Pau and Southfield Sebastian, the double national winner from Falaise and Agen. Next to time were two sisters, both grand-daughters of Southfield Sebastian when the dam is a daughter of Rolex, first NFC Saintes. 

Terry Haley & Harry

Terry Haley of Watford was thirteenth open and ninth section D with a young bird on 1387ypm over 97 miles. Terry timed a blue chequer hen bred for him by Roger Smith of Salisbury. 

Vince Durrant

Mr and Mrs Durrant of Godalming clocked a young bird on 1277ypm over a distance of 128 miles to take fifteenth open and first section G. Vince, Sue and Jack clocked a hen containing Mark Evans' Vandenabeele bloodlines. It was raced natural to the perch. 

Erik Neilson

Wearn Brothers and Neilson of Ramsdean timed six youngsters to take, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first open and the first six places in section A. First to time was a young bird on 1252ypm over 138 miles. This was bred by Peter Fox out of Basil x Amazon. Erik's second pigeon was bred by Les Green and the third by Darren and Josh May. 

Darren May & Ellie

Mr and Mrs May and Son of West Ashling were twenty-second open and second section G with a young bird on 1194ypm over 148 miles. Raced to the perch, this hen is a grand-daughter of their super breeder, Spiderman. 

Edwards & Harris

Edwards and Harris of Gosport were twenty-third open and seventh section A with a youngster on 1154ypm over a distance of 150 miles. Bill and Pat timed a Hartog darkness hen, sent sitting eight day eggs. This hen was a gift from their good friend Mike Hales from north Wales. 

Andrew Hitchcock

Andrew Hitchcock of Windsor timed a young bird on 1130ypm over 108 miles to take twenty-fourth open and ninth section D. 

J and M Drain of Porchester were twenty-fifth open and eighth section A with a young bird on 1129ypm over 147 miles. The partners timed a second pigeon to also take twenty-seventh open and tenth section A. 

Around the sections

Lanahan & Gerard

Lanahan and Gerard of Poole were first section B on 1018ypm over 154 miles. Danny and John's youngster is bred from their new line of Joseph pigeons. 

Mark & Julie Gower

Mr and Mrs Gower of Fordingbridge were second and third section B with their first young bird on 998mpm over a distance of 141 miles. Mark and Julie timed a young bird bred from GWP Macaloney stock, being a grand-daughter of Camelot, Blue Caviar and Troy.
