Batenburg-Van De Merwe (Klaaswaal, NL) shows potential with yearlings on Agen

The extraordinary quality Batenburg-Van de Merwe's colony possesses is once again confirmed with an impressive feat on the race from Agen.

The 912km race from France to South-Holland seemed like a piece of cake for this combination. Before night fell, they had clocked 51 out of their 132 basketed pigeons. 39 yearlings reached the lofts the day of release, of which 7 fly top 100 national beginning with 7th and 9th...a super result!

On the day after release, they continued clocking birds from 5.31 onwards. The provincial race closed at 7.13 AM, at this time 70 Batenburg-Van de Merwe pigeons had reached the lofts in Klaaswaal. An overview of the arrival times:

19.39 – 19.46 – 19.57 – 20.10 – 20.10 – 20.18 – 20.27 – 20.27 – 20.33 – 20.34 – 20.35 – 20.42 – 20.45 – 20.48 – 20.53 – 20.56 – 21.02 – 21.03 – 21.08 – 21.08 – 21.08 – 21.13 – 21.13 - 21.18 – 21.18 – 21.18 – 21.22 – 21.35 – 21.-40 – 21.-40 – 21.45 – 21.46 – 21.46 – 21.46 – 21.-47 – 21.-53 – 21.55 – 21.58 – 21.58 – 22.02 – 22.07 – 22.11 – 22.14 – 22.15 – 22.20 – 22.20 – 22.21 – 22.25 – 22.29 – 22.34 – 22.47 – 22.50 – 5.31 – 5.36 – 5.40 – 5.45 – 5.54 – 6.33 – 6.33 – 6.33 – 6.44 – 6.44 – 6.50 – 6.57 – 6.57 – 7.00 – 7.02 – 7.03 – 7.07 – 7.08 – 7.13

A beautiful series

"We entered quite a large team," says Hugo, "but with a prize percentage of more than 50% (1:4), whilst three quarters of this group are yearlings, we can certainly be satisfied!". An understatement by the champion from Klaaswaal. The series in the provincial and national results are outstanding:

Provincial Afd. 5 (yearlings + old birds) 2.934 d.: 2nd-3rd-5th-14th-15th-20th-28th-29th-41st-43rd-63rd-69th-73rd-83th-90th-etc. (70/132)
National ZLU yearlings: 7th-11th-21st-50th-51st-69th-96th-122nd-128th-161st-187th-etc.

With Barcelona coming closer, the Agen results are a good indicator for the condition on the Batenburg-Van de Merwe lofts. "For us, Barcelona is the main race of the year. Everybody knows that Barcelona is in our hearts. It is not for nothing that we place 1st Int. Barcelona winners such as New Laureaat (2013), Kleine Jade (2014), The Special One (2015), Sumerian Fighter (2017), Lloyd (2018), Jef (2019) en Queen Of The Night (2020) on our breeding lofts. It is our goal to gather so much class in a modern long distance pigeon that can excel for several generations. I am very curious how they'll do on Barcelona."

A quality overdosis

Keeping in mind the quality present on the Batenburg-Van De Merwe breeding lofts, it is no surprise that the top-100 National ZLU yearlings all have first-class pedigrees.

Young talents are hopeful for the future. With such a great yearling team, Batenburg-Van de Merwe can look forward to the upcoming racing seasons. Nonetheless, the former wold champion hopes to deliver some more magnificent results in the next weeks on the international classics. The main goal being his favorite race from Barcelona next weekend!
