A report on the British Barcelona Club race from Berwick on 28th June 2021

132 members sent 945 pigeons to Berwick with the British Barcelona Club. After a two day holdover they were liberated at 06.30CEST on Monday 28th June. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.
GB18N09215 prize cards

Pete Barlow of Coombe Hill timed a three year old, black hen on 1299ypm to take first open and first section C. Pete's winner has now been named Odessa Girl and has been a consistent racer. Odessa Girl is a full sister to a 6th open classic winner and her grandsire was an excellent racer. Her breeding includes Gaby, Busschaert, Biss and Martin Williams bloodlines. 

Nigel & Wendy Shaw

Mr and Mrs Shaw of Crewe were second open and first section E with a two year old on 1260ypm. Husband and wife timed a Ceusters hen bred by David Sara. Similarly bred pigeons have been consistent racers for them. 

Martin Talent

Talent and Westbury of Corwen clocked a yearling, Sticker Donkeres cock on 1251ypm to take third open and second section E. It was sent sitting squeakers which were a bit bigger when it got back home again. 

McGraw. Clegg & Preece

Fourth open and third section E was a three year old on 1181ypm for the partnership of McGraw, Clegg and Preece from Stoke on Trent. The sire to their fourth open winner is a full brother to their double section winner and the dam is a full sister to a fed topper hen. 

Roger Lowe

Roger Lowe of Reading was fifth open and first section D with a yearling, roundabout hen named Misty Blue on 1167ypm. Misty Hen is 100% Peter Veenstra bloodlines bred down from My Flojo, which is related to Return Flojo, which in turn was one of the best performers in the SAMDPR 2018 one loft race. 

Lourens Londt's pigeon

Lourens Londt of Cannock timed a yearling on 0045ypm to take sixth open and fourth section E. Lourens timed a descendent of Geoff Kirkland's Snake, which was bred from his grizzle family. 

Mel & Sue King

Seventh open and first section B was won by Mel and Sue King of Blandford Forum with a yearling cock flown on their celibate x roundabout system and recording a velocity of 1116ypm. It was their second bird from the Blaydon race where it was 147th open  and is bred from their long distance bloodlines. The sire is a son of Padfield Invincible from the House of Aarden. The dam was bred by Joe Raeburn and is a daughter of Litton Glory. 

Graham Clift

Graham Clift of Tirley timed two pigeons to take eighth and ninth open, second and third section C on 1094ypm and 1093ypm respectively. First on the clock for Graham was a grandson of Mark Gilbert's 1st BICC Marseille winner. Next to time was a De Smyter x Brockamp hen bred in his stock loft. 

John Adams

Completing the top ten and in second section D is J Adams of Watford with a three year old cock on 1073ypm. John's pigeon was 22nd open BICC St Philbert last year. The sire was bred by Mark Gilbert and contains Vandenabeele Dutch Master and Golden Gaby bloodlines when it was paired to a Daniel Arrens hen. 

Around the sections

Godfrey Kingswood-Cox

First and second section A was won by Godfrey Kingswood-Cox from Southampton. Both birds were yearlings on 1067ypm and 1066ypm respectively and both were bred from Godfrey's old family of pigeons. These contain the bloodlines of his grandfather's family of pigeons which are of the E W Cox Savage Barker based family crossed with a few additions which made him famous in London. 

Kevin & John Zerafa

K and J Zerafa of Portsmouth timed two pigeons to take third and fourth section A. Both were two year olds on 1046ypm and 1042ypm. 

Alfie Harp & Nick Pearse

Second section B was a three year old on 976ypm for Harp and Pearse of Poole. The dam of this pigeon is the same way bred as a fifth fed winner and the sire comes from La Belle Etoile. Both were purchased from Nigel Langstaff. 

Bill Young

Bill Young of Byfleet timed a three year old on 832ypm to take first section G. Bill's section winner was a gift bird from Keith and Betty Mott and contained Brian Denny x Eric Cannon bloodlines. It has always been named Mott the Hoople  and last year flew a hard race from Narbonne and also Bordeaux. It is a full brother to Terry Haley's Madam Mott. 

Paul Baker

P Baker of Seaford was second section G with a two year old on 740ypm. 

Les Hawkins, grandson Jake & Tilly the dog

Mr and Mrs Les Hawkins of Manuden were first, second and third section J, First to time was a two year old, pied hen on 705ypm. This hen was bred from a son of Ron, their Barcelona cock when paired to a daughter of their Tarbes cock, Domino.
