Chris Hebberecht (Evergem, BE) wins 1st National Marseille

This is already his second provincial win, after Chris's earlier national victory from St. Vincent.

The two year old racing cock from Chris Hebberecht put in quite a performance in the race from Marseille. Keep in mind the conditions were not really in his favour; the location of the loft, the direction of the main pack, and the weather conditions (initially a mostly north-northwesterly wind above Paris, turning into west-northwest as the race went on). This pigeon has really pushed himself forward all the way from Marseille to Evergem. He was released at 6:45am and clocked at 20:54'49" (or almost 14 hours and 10 minutes later). He covered 880.777 km with a velocity of 1036.4277 m/min, which was the highest average pace at national level, hence his national victory in Marseille.

1st National Marseille

Chris Hebberecht had basketed two pigeons for Marseille, and it was his second nominated that took this impressive victory. He had already had an early finish both in Chateauroux and Argenton as a one year old, as well as in the national race from Aurillac, where he claimed a 424th Nat. Aurillac of 3,584 yearlings. He was also quite strong in the national race from Limoges I on 5th of July, but he really stepped up three weeks later in Marseille. This national winner originates directly from the two brothers Michel & Didier Desbuquois from Kapelle o/d Bos.

Strong in Montélimar, Agen and Valence

Whereas many fanciers from both East and West Flanders would rather stay away from the races from the Rhône valley, Chris Hebberecht shows that he is clearly up for this particularly demanding competitions. His national victory from Marseille was in fact not only important achievement: he was also victorious in the race from Montélimar at club level. He had basketed four birds for this race, and these had already completed a race from Valence earlier on as well. The Hebberechts pigeons performed as follows in these two races:

24/07 Montélimar club 40 p.: 1-3-11 (3/4)
Prov 430 p.: 46-67-102 (3/4)
Nat 3,778 p.: 430-563-907 (3/4)

These prizes were won with the team's first three nominated birds, in that order. This is an impressive result, given the location of Chris's loft, racing against the wind and against the main pack. And he claimed the following results in Valence:

11/07 Valence club 86 p.: 2-3-4-7-8-14-21-25 (8/10)
Nat. Zone 859 p.: 5-10-49-52-58-99-126-175 (8/10)
Nat 7,591 p.: 70-101-471-513-547-915-1117-1358 (8/10)

Racing bird Nacho BE16-4130153 was the first pigeon to arrive home both in Valence and Montélimar. He had successfully completed the Valence-Montélimar combination in 2019 as well, while also claiming a top result in the 2018 edition of Valence. This is Nacho's list of achievements:

-Nacho BE16-4130153

  70th Nat. Valence 7,591 p. ’20 – 5. Nat Zone 859 p.
430th Nat. Montélimar ’20 – 1st prize club 40 p.
  73rd Nat. Libourne 4,605 p. ’19
215th Nat. Tulle 4,169 p. ’18
313th Nat. Valence 7,682 p. ’18

This Nacho originates from the stock bloodlines of the Chris Hebberecht pigeon family. His sire is a full Brother Jempi BE10-4327607 and also a half brother of Champion. Jempi is the sire of Ike (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon long distance KBDB 2010) and Champion was 1st Prov. and 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon long distance KBDB 2005. The dam is Daughter Jaws BE11-4090170. Jaws was 3rd Nat. Ace Pigeon long distance KBDB 2010 and winner of 7 first prizes, an 8th Nat. Brive 17,456 p., a 12th Nat. Souillac 3,290 p., a 26th Nat. Cahors 8,651 p. and a 32nd Nat. Souillac 7,039 pigeons.

And on the same day as the races from Marseille and Montélimar, the team also scored an impressive five out of six in the international race from Agen:

24/7 Agen club 98 olds: 7-8-24-27-28 (5/6)
Nat 5,140 olds: 193-352-890-997-1039 (5/6)

Chris Hebbrecht can look back on another fantastic weekend of racing, with a second national victory of his career as the absolute highlight, the icing on the cake. He already had a 1st Nat. St. Vincent 2013 under his belt, and he strikes again in 2020, with a 1st Nat. Marseille. It might give him a taste for more; three is the magic number, remember? Congratulations to Chris and Kathy.
