After several particularly strong seasons, and a truly exceptional 2019 season, Philippe Dobbelaere seems eager to live up to his name as national champion in the new 2020 season as well. He revealed his ambitions already in the first two weeks since the official start of the season post corona. Last weekend, he clocked the first five pigeons in the shorter middle distance race from Sermaises of 3,062 pigeons in a union that comprises 15 clubs. His opponents could do nothing but watch:
20-06 Sermaises 3,062 pigeons: (union)
1-2-3-3-5-12-13-13-15-22-24-53-73-85-106-108-255-321-402-593 etc. (23/37)
20/06 Sermaises 1,844 yearlings: (union)
20-06 Vierzon 584 p.: 3-8-18-46-63-131-137-205-230 (9/15)
Prov 7,838 olds: 56-122-244-565… (7/15)
His first and second nominated were the first birds in the clock in Vierzon.
The Dobbelaere birds performed as follows in the first weekend of racing, on 13th of June:
13-06 Sermaises 2,510 p.: (union)
2-8-17-21-22-59-60-77-115-118-120-222-307 etc. (21/36)
13-06 Sermaises 1.100 yearlings: (union)
13-06-20 Sermaises 301 p. (Zulte)
14-06 Clermont 252 p.: 1 (1/1)
This has been a remarkable start to the 2020 season.
Rocco dynasty takes the lead, with Jane taking the win in Sermaises
Last year – in 2019 – Robin won a 1st National Libourne YLs, and he became 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon long distance and extreme long distance yearlings KBDB 2019. A full brother of the sire of Robin – his name is Robby – was in turn 7th Nat. Ace Pigeon long distance KBDB in 2019. And Robby is also a full brother of Rocco. This goes to show that the Rocco dynasty has been the key to success for Philippe Dobbelaere, besides the tried and trusted bloodlines of Brigitte, Two Times Brigitte (winner of a 1st Nat. Chateauroux), Evita, 900-duivin, Jules, and many others.
This has been a fantastic foundation that enabled Philippe to become a nationally renowned player. This set of bloodlines can be found all over his breeding and racing loft. Jane, winner in Sermaises in both the old birds' and yearlings' race, originates from the same strains which the Rocco dynasty is founded upon, both through her sire and dam. In addition, she is a half sister (from the same sire) of the winner of a 1st Nat. Jarnac 3,904 p. Let's just say that Jane has some excellent origins indeed.
1. Sermaises 3,062 p. ’20 – 1. Sermaises 1,844 YLs
6. Nat Argenton 23,260 p. ’19
4. Clermont 556 p.
10. Toury 324 p.
67. Sermaises 1,100 YLs
Sire: Father 1. Nat Jarnac BE12-4218820
He is the sire of Greg, a 1st Nat. Jarnac of 3,904 pigeons. He comes from Father 1st Nat. Chateauroux BE11-4264425, which in turn originates from Keizer BE09-4107260, a nest brother of stock dam Cleo. These were both bred by stock pair Father Cleo x Black Romulus, which is exactly where the Rocco dynasty comes from! In this case, Keizer was paired to golden stock dam Brigitte (Olympiad Pigeon Poznan in 2011). The dam of Father 1st Nat. Jarnac is Daughter Camielke BE04-4241601, or the dam of Brigitte. An impressive pedigree!
Dam: Dochter Zonaalken BE15-4256062
She is a daughter of Son Sylvie BE14-4280697 (Sylvie won a 1st Prov. Vierzon 6,298 p. and a 1st Nat. Zone La Souterraine 1,391 p.) x Zonaalken BE13-4063109 (winner of a 1st Nat. Zone Issoudun 3,720 p.). Zonaalken is a full sister of Evita (1st Best yearling of Belgium longer middle distance 2014 in the national races), and a granddaughter of stock dam Cleo (sister of Father Rocco, Keizer, and others).
Champions breed champions, we have heard it before. Jane is an excellent example!
The other four pigeons that managed to finish in the top five in Sermaises could have easily won this race as well, if it wasn't for their own teammates. Let's take a look at their track record:
-Cato BE19-4099238: winner of a 2nd Sermaises 3,062 p. She had already won a 5th Nat. Argenton 23,260 p., a 1st Orleans 679 p. and a 35th Prov. 6,154 p. in 2019. He sire is Brother Cleo BE14-4022337 (hence a full brother of Father Rocco) x Blue Camiel BE11-3041139.
-Sofie BE18-4076041: winner of a 3rd Sermaises 3,062 p. She is a daughter of top class racing hen Zorana BE15-4158980 (58th Nat. Bourges, 19th Prov. Orleans, 36th N.Zone Montluçon, 54th Prov. Vierzon), and she is in turn a daughter of Zonaalken (the grandmother of Jane). Her sire is Bonten BE09-4107264 (winner of a 1st Tours 265 p. and 18-51-89th Intprov. Tours).
-Kati BE19-4099215: winner of a 3rd Sermaises 3,062 p. (a joint third place with Sofie; they were clocked simultaneously), and already winner of a 1st Clermon 202 p. She comes from Halfbrother 900 BE16-4245104, which is himself a son of Emerson (sire of the 900-duivin and a son of top pair Tsaby x Kim of Geert Vanrenterghem and Annick Goeteyn), paired to the dam of a 1st Nat. Chateauroux (Two Times Brigitte). The dam of Kati is Sister Camillo BE17-4235000 (Camillo was 1st Prov. Ace Pigeon middle distance KBDB 2017), and she is a daughter of super class hen Evita (1st best yearling of Belgium longer middle distance 2014 in the national races).
- Rosita BE18-4076107: winner of a 5th Sermaises 3,062 p. This Rosita is a full sister of Rocco, of Robby (7th Nat. Ace Pigeon long distance KBDB 2019) and of Father Robin (1st Nat. Libourne and 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon long distance & extreme long distance YLs KBDB 2019). This makes her a daughter of the invaluable breeding pair Father Rocco BE11-4264416 x Mother Rocco DV5791-14-107 (coming from Roland Rothe, bred from two direct Gaby Vandenabeele birds).
A strong winning mentality
The Philippe Dobbelaere racing birds are not hiding their ambitions for 2020. They want to excel, they want to dominate and they want to win. We assume that their impressive performance in Olsene will only encourage them further, and Philippe will try to continue along these lines in the coming weeks. There is no doubt about that. Keep in mind his pigeons are very tough to beat in difficult weather. Just wait and see.
