Rudi De Saer (Ruiselede, BE) gets his team up to speed for 2019

We reckon most of you are already familiar with golden stock dam 't Goedje or stock pair Perigueux x Corry. They enabled Team Rudi De Saer to get some truly fantastic results over the years. Their descendants continue to boost the international reputation of the modern-day De Saer pigeon.

Belgian national long distance star with a tradition

Everyone will agree that Rudi De Saer has one of Belgium's most celebrated and most successful long distance breeds from the past decade. His extensive list of championship titles and national KBDB prizes speak for themselves. These are of course his most prominent titles:

1st Nat. Champion Long Distance Olds KBDB 2014
1st Nat. Champion Long Distance Olds KBDB 2010
2nd Nat. Champion Long Distance Olds KBDB 2009
2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance Olds KBDB 2015

A fanciers does not become the national number one overnight. It takes a team of super class pigeons to make this happen, for instance Bleken and Tours, which bred some excellent descendants. Team De Saer pushed the envelope even further, with their national dominance resulting in four prestigious national first prizes:

-New Jens BE10-302096:     1st Nat. Limoges 13,781 p. in 2012
-New Tours BE10-3020802: 1st Nat. Cahors 7,136 p. in 2014
-Antonio BE10-3020860:      1st Nat. Souillac 7,756 p. in 2012
-Favoriet BE11-3123742:     1st Nat. Limoges II 8,303 p. in 2015 , 2nd Nat. Limoges 18,390 o. in 2014, 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2015

This wave of success had a flip side as well: Rudi opted to not sell any of his national winners, instead transferring them to the breeding loft, where they provided him with new stars for future seasons. But this is still a tough call for any fancier; what is the best option for your team's future? Rudi was well aware that your future as a fancier lies in your breeding loft most of the time.

This transfer considerably weakened his existing racing team of course, with his best birds moving to the breeding loft. At that moment, you need a new generation of champions that is ready to fill the gap. However, national winners and ace pigeons are hard to come by. Rudi used his best racing birds in the breeding loft to create future stars - he was patient but expectations were high.
The premature loss of Favoriet (death) was a major blow for the team. Fortunately enough, there were some other racing birds that had already proven to be talented breeders as well: Antonio (we talked about him in a previous report), New Jens and New Tours. The origins of these three pigeons can be summarised as follows: the invaluable bloodline of 't Goedje, combined with the old stock bloodline of Perigueux x Corry, and some newly introduced birds that were used for crossbreedings, such as Gino’s Boy (G.Clicque), Monar’s Pride (E.Meirlaen), Amalia (Batenburg-Vd Merwe), Neymar (N.Ally) and others.

Ace: the star of the 2018 racing team

Meanwhile, some talented new long distance birds have seen the light of day, and the Rudi De Saer pigeon breed has been quite successful in national competitions and championships. The leader of this new generation of champions is without doubt Ace. He is a fabulous marathon bird with an impressive 7 national top 100 prizes to his name, as well as two top prizes in the national ace pigeon championships KBDB long distance! Just have a look:

Further increasing this racing team's strength in numbers has been one of the main objectives of this team. Rudi has been working hard on this, and he seems to have reached his goal. The team from Ruiselede appears to have quite a group of talented birds for 2019 at his disposal, ready for another season of top prizes and victories. Some pigeons had already been very successful in the demanding 2018 season, and Rudi is hoping that these can deliver again in 2019. Take for instance Kleinen, Janco and Bonten:

And there are plenty more promising newcomers in this generation of one year olds, including a number of pigeons from a crossing of the tried and trusted inbred De Saer breed, which was successfully strengthened with some other introductions. These will be particularly suited to be paired to the old foundation again.

Bonten and Janco: the 2 superstars in the 2018 yearlings' team

A strong team of young birds gives you plenty of options for the future. Bonten and Janco are two talented young birds that have made a name for themselves in the demanding long distance races in July and August last year. This raises hopes of some other yet to be discovered long distance champions, that can further add to the reputation of the modern-day De Saer pigeon.

These talented pigeons have been winning numerous top prizes across the 2018 season, even at national level, and this resulted in quite a few championship titles at club level and in the national KBDB competition. The following is a brief summary of their best results.

The exceptional breeding potential of the De Saer pigeons

We can honestly say that the De Saer pigeon breed is as strong as ever, as one of the leading teams in the long distance. Rudi can confidently continue to expand his existing pigeon breed. Meanwhile, a number of crossings with the inbred De Saer bloodlines have already shown to have great potential as well. Remember that this is a pigeon family that has helped other teams win prizes at the highest level as well. The numbers speak for themselves, not in the least in their own loft, where Rudi is working hard to get his team up and running for the 2019 racing season. He is hoping to add another chapter to his extensive success story. He is clearly highly motivated!
