Vermeerbergen-Wilms (Mol, BE) grandmasters in the national young birds' races

National Wonder was the best young bird of Belgium over 6 national races in 2014, and the impressive first, second, third and fourth national from Chateauroux was arguably the most spectacular result of the century. A pigeon family that provides such amazing results can be rightly considered one of the top lofts in Belgium; they are the number one specialist in the national young birds’ races!

These achievements did not come as a surprise. It is the result of a top quality pigeon breed led by a group of passionate and highly experienced fanciers.

Vermeerbergen-Wilms

The successful combination was founded in 2011, when Luc Vermeerbergen (61) and Robby Wilms (39) decided to join forces. It is no secret that Luc Vermeerbergen has an eye for talent; he is particularly fond of creating pigeon breeds based on super class birds with a proven record and their direct descendants.

Robby Wilms was the winner of the title of 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon middle distance KBDB 2009 with 't Fenomeentje, and Luc knew that he has the man who could get the most out of his team of breeders. Robby is an exceptional fancier who can really unlock the potential of a pigeon breed. Luc and Robb started working together in 2009, aiming to breed the best possible pigeons for the national young birds' classics.

The Vermeerbergen-Wilms combination could now count on a true young birds’ specialist with Robby, and it would be only a matter of time before they would start to win prizes in the national young birds’ competition.

They soon started winning national top prizes, including a 2nd-3rd-6th-9th national. They initially failed to win a national first prize, although they did manage to win 4 provincial and 4 zonal first prizes in the course of 2011-2014, which is quite impressive as well. In addition, their pigeon National Wonder won the title of Best Young Bird of Belgium over 6 national races in 2014.

This combination was clearly on the right track but the only thing still missing on their list of achievements was a national first prize. Luc and Robby were really eager to add a national victory to their palmares, and they eventually managed to do so in quite a spectacular fashion!

Spectacular result: 1-2-3-4 Nat. Chateauroux

Records are made to be broken. The pigeons of Luc and Robby really put in a historic and record breaking achievement in the race from Chateauroux on 6 September. It was a truly spectacular feat, especially since no other fancier in the history of pigeon racing in Belgium had ever managed to win the first four prizes in a national classic, let alone with nothing but young birds.

The pigeons of Vermeerbergen-Wilms have put in a truly incredible performance. The fanciers could not believe what they saw. In fact, they think back to this glorious moment every time they walk into the garden, where four pigeons were circling the loft simultaneously. They assumed some of them came from a different loft but that was not the case: they all landed on the board and were automatically clocked. They soon proved to be the fastest four pigeons at national level, and no other pigeon managed to exceed their performance later in the day. This was an extraordinary performance!

1-2-3-4 National against 10,442 young birds - the fastest four pigeons overall against 12,429 pigeons from Chateauroux!

This is really a spectacular feat - our congratulations!
It adds to an impressive list of top 100 prizes at national level this season:

The successful National Wonder bloodline

Success cannot be taken for granted in pigeon racing. Creating a successful pigeon breed is the result of working hard and trying to find the pigeons that suit your needs. You then have to breed and race them, and spend 6 or 7 hours a day in your loft on average. The final step is to try and unlock their potential and to get them in peak form for the most important races. Pigeon racing is often not just a hobby but rather a passion.

As a fancier, you hope to see your efforts rewarded. The Vermeerbergen-Wilms combination had the best young bird of Belgium over 5 and 6 national races in the PIPA rankings with their talented National Wonder.
