Vermeerbergen-Wilms (Mol, BE) take the provincial win from Tours in Antwerp

Luc Vermeerbergen and Robby Wilms had been doing really well in recent seasons, and their provincial victory in last weekend’s race from Tours was the cherry on the cake for them. They owe their victory to the promising New Mustang.

Tense moments

Many fanciers were not really confident about whether their pigeons would arrive home. Images from the release site had been published online and these were not very positive. The earliest pigeons had started to come home about an hour ago when Vermeerbergen-Wilms saw their first racing bird from Tours arrive in the loft at around 14:25. It was New Mustang (BE14-6168626) that claimed the provincial first prize from Tours 2014 in Antwerp with a velocity of 1372.64 m/min over a distance of 528km. Robby and Luc only just beat Wim De Troy from Berlaar, who had to settle for second with a velocity of 1372.39 m/min. The winning pigeon had been in great shape in the past few weeks:

Luc en Robby

Mustang dynasty

The pedigree of New Mustang indicates that he has excellent origins. He is related to Kannibaal and Figo (1st national Bourges & 3rd Nat. Ace Pigeon Middle Distance 2001) from his father’s side. His sire was particularly successful in the sprint competition. The dam of New Mustang is a sister of the famous Blauwe Mustang, an excellent pigeon of Roger Engelsen (Dessel, BE) and ace pigeon sprint in Dortmund 2009. She is also the dam of Raket 666, the champion that won a 3rd national Guéret 2012 against 16,988 pigeons as a young bird. She is now the dam of the provincial winner of last weekend’s Tour as well, which means she is well on her way to becoming a new stock hen. You can find the full pedigree of New Mustang here.

Raket 666, a half brother of the 1st provincial Tours 2014, is a descendant of Mustang

Two chances

A provincial first prize is great, but it also makes you dream of more. Luc and Robby have two more chances, including first of all the race from La Souterraine. Given the current form of their pigeon breed it is not unlikely that they will continue to perform really well in the next couple of weeks.
