Antoine & Rudi De Saer (Ruiselede, BE) dominate the race from Tours with a 1st-2nd-3rd provincial against 6,400 old birds

The pigeons of Rudi De Saer turned the provincial old birds’ race from Tours into a one man show, with 28 prizes by 31 pigeons up to provincial level, including 17 prizes per ten and the first three provincial prizes.

Rudi had basketed a total of 52 pigeons for Tours (olds and yearlings). 42 pigeons won a provincial prize, 26 won a prize per ten, and no less than ten pigeons finished in the provincial top 50. Well done! We wonder if he will ever be able to match or exceed this level of performance in the upcoming national season. This is quite a spectacular start to the season and it makes him one of the men to watch in the first national long distance race from Limoges on 31st May.

The true Gaby Vandenabeele pigeon knows how to do well in demanding weather conditions with a slight headwind, which is when they are particularly tough to beat. This has become evident not only in Vandenabeele’s loft in Dentergem but also in many other Vandenabeele based pigeon families. Think for instance of the loft of Geert Vanrenterghem (1st Prov. Vierzon Old Birds in East Flanders last weekend), Rik Cools, and of course Rudi De Saer!
Rudi’s impressive performance last weekend was not that much of a surprise; he basically overpowered his opponents with the following results:

Tours Club 170 olds: 1-2-3-4-5-6-8-9-10-11-13-14-18-20… (28/31)
      Prov 6,400 olds: 1-2-3-8-19-32… (17 per 10 and 28/31)

Tours Club 91 YL: 1-2-3-5-8-11-12-13-15… (14/21)
      Prov 2,964 YL: 4-9-15-42… (9 per 10 and 14/21)

These are impressive results indeed! In addition, he had five old birds finish in the provincial top 19, including his first four nominated! These five old birds were his 4th, 2nd, 6th, 3rd, and 1st nominated, in that order. In other words, this was a spectacular race. We take a closer look at the three champions that were in a fight for the provincial victory:

These are three closely related top quality racing pigeons. Their first nominated pigeon, New Tours BE10-3020802, winner of a 19th provincial prize, stems from that same pigeon family, as a direct son of stock dam ’t Goedje BE05-3177035, paired to Zoon Groten BE02-3185762. In fact, the majority of today’s racing team is closely related to the two De Saer champions Bleken and Tours, which have been able to win the title of First National Long Distance Champion KBDB in 2010!

Plenty of quality

Such a collection of top quality pigeons puts you in a favourable position as a fancier, and it explains their excellent results in Tours. It seems that they will be a tough opponent in this year’s national long distance competition.
A team of 31 old birds is ready to tackle the long distance races, with the main focus on Limoges (2x), Cahors, Montauban, Brive, Jarnac and Tulle. Most fanciers already know that they have to keep an eye on the pigeon loft of Antoine and Rudi De Saer, home to no less than three national winners. Could he add another national win to his list of achievements this season? We think he has a good chance, given his results in recent weeks. Congratulations Rudi!
