Scientific research has already achieved pioneering work… as a result of which several types of cancers can be treated effectively… but this naturally requires money and resources. For this, various projects have been started from various corners. It is the well-known lady pigeon fancier and ‘Gouden Vleugel winner 2008’ Mrs Solange De Cuyper from Gijzenzele, who has now put her shoulders under one of these projects… namely the benefit project ‘Don’t stay blind to cancer’. Solange herself was affected by the ‘bug’… and that made her start thinking… and the idea of this ‘benefit project’ grew, and finally came into being! This under the joint initiative of Marc De Groote from Zottegem who was confronted in his family with people with a ‘visual handicap’! Hence…
A one-off activity for the benefit of the ‘Belgian centre for guide dogs’ in Tongeren… and the ‘Audiovisual project… Breast cancer ‘Not in words but pictures’… for the benefit of supporting breast cancer patients at the ‘Breast clinic’ O.L.V. in Aalst.
Various pigeon societies and pigeon fanciers over the entire country have already agreed to collaborate with this project. In the province East-Flanders they do this by selling ‘Support cards’ to their fanciers, for the price of 5 € per cart. This is linked to a big lottery (1° prize: laptop, 2° prize: LCD-screen, 3° prize: bicycle… and many other valuable prizes). So sport friends fanciers from East-Flanders… for just 5 € you support this project for a ‘charity’… our health! In addition you can also win something valuable. The draw… and closing event with a ‘feast’ will take place on Sunday the 3rd of October in the Salons Mantovani in Oudenaarde… where 2 top pigeons will also be auctioned in the afternoon… The organisers advise you to register on time as the number of places available is limited!
There will also be a unique ‘on line- auction’ on PiPa, where 20 top pigeons will be offered via the internet, and from which the profits will be donated to this benefit project! This internet auction starts on Monday the 20th of September and ends on Friday the 1st of October… all relevant info can be found on www.pipa.be!
