Thousands of birds liberated 6:15 am on 6/28/2008 at Topeka Kansas USA for the 2008 midwest national classic race. Distances 100-1000 miles competed. Wind was calm, weather partly cloudy, temp 70 degrees F. It was reported the birds left the release point in good time and all driver were satisfied.

strange race because some people need sprintracers and other longdistance racers for the same race(100<>1000miles),

This race is in sections from all around the compass. The sections are 100,200,300,400,500,600,1000 miles. Birds can be entered in your mileage section only. In my case I am able to enter the 600 mile section only. Our club has clocked 3 reported day birds, with some clocked this morning. I did not sent any to this race.

the 1000 miles race, how old are the pigeons for this race ?
From what I have read pigeons are in their racing prime from 4-7 years old. 1000 mile races were shipped with Trentons and Sions in the past. Not sure how many entered that distance? There were 6,723 total birds entered in the race. Results should be posted soon.
If I had capable stock I would ship a four year old to the 1000.
The 600 mile results have just been posted on the AU national database. Some of our clubmates have won 1,2,3,8,14.19

There is some renewed interest to revive the 1000 mile races here in the US. Some clubs are working towards this goal. The AU speed awards are listed since 1976. Old birds are listed to 2000-2500 miles below. The 600 mile distance speed record is new this year.
