The H7 avian flu strain (not so highly pathogenic) has been detected from 2 common quails in Aichi prefecture, about 250km west of Tokyo, on 27 February, 2009. No dead birds were found this time, but all 320,000 birds in the farm were killed to prevent the spread of disease. It is the first detection from quails in Japan, and the confirmation of the strain is the first time in 84 years in Japan.
