As a 10-year old boy he was already so interested in the pigeon sport that in his village Sint-Joris-Weert (Oud -Heverlee by Leuven) he went to watch the pigeons “land” here and there. As a 12-year old he raced in combination with grandfather Vital Bruggemans, a fearful combination in the sprint and middle distance races. In 2002, due to health reasons of grandfather, his marriage to Inge, the move to Ghent and the busy job of Geert they stopped racing in St Joris Weert. In 2003 Geert picked the thread up again by racing with bosom friend Erik Limbourg, who he has now done the administration for over the last 10 years and together with Erik belongs to the absolute top of the international pigeon sport.

At professional level Geert has been involved in the pigeon sport full-time for the last 15 years:
1996-2001 as Export Manager by the firm Comed. Then 10 years (2001-2011) as Sales Manager by Bricon  where worldwide thousands of clubs and fanciers could call him day or night 7/7 for advice and expertise in electronic clocks. In 2012 Geert will remain in contact with his Bricon clients on a self-employed basis.

After the successful auction of the Limbourg-pigeons, organised by PIPA in December 2009 the contact between the brothers Nikolaas and Thomas on the one side and Geert on the other, a true friendship has arisen and they have remained very close, resulting in the current collaboration between both parties. Geert will offer his expertise in the Belgian- and international pigeon sport to PIPA and use it to the full to ensure that PIPA will also have the bery best material on the auction table in the future. Together with Thomas and Adrien Mirabelle (who represents PIPA in Wallonië) will be the point of contact in Belgium for the fanciers, mainly where everything to do with the sales of pigeons is concerned.

PIPA strongly believes that Geert offers enormous added value and will continue to do so in the future and will make PIPA stronger than it already is.
