In the first part of this article on the King’s Cup and the International winning partnership, I outlined Geoff and Catherines background in the sport leading up to their great win of 1st International Bordeaux in 2011. In this second part I intend to highlight some of the loft’s top performing pigeons and the partners’ past successes, as well as giving a little more detail on their feeding and medication system.

The Grand slam! This is exactly what Geoff and Catherine Cooper achieved in June 2011 when they clocked their Dark Chequer cock to win 1st Open BICC and 1st Open International Bordeaux / Agen from a total field of 22,029 pigeons entered by the best fanciers in Europe.

After an amazing few days at the Great Barrier Reef, we flew down to Adelaide for the South Australian Homing Pigeon Association Expo held in Adelaide. We spent two nights with Warren and Helen March. Warren is a “pigeon fanatic”: he races and runs a small stud called Seasue lofts.

Geoff and I were delighted when we were invited to Australia in April 2011 to talk about our family of pigeons and our methods, at the South Australian Homing Pigeon Association Expo at Adelaide on January 7th 2012.

I have been racing pigeons since I was 13 years old, and have been racing National races since I was twenty. I had some success, twice winning the Section from Palamos 701 miles, being 2nd & 6th Open, and 1st National FC Section G from Nantes. In those days I was racing Natural, with birds from fanciers such as Reg Venner from Street and Trueman Dickens Wells. Things changed for me in the 1980’s when I started to fly the Widowhood system as seen on the continent.

Recently a group of Australian fanciers (Warren March, Dave Buxton and Keith Brumfield) met up with some local fanciers at the home of Geoff and Catherine Cooper.

Section G in the National Flying Club UK covers an area approximately half the size of Belgium. To win 1st, 2nd and 3rd in section G from The Grand National is an amazing achievement, it does not happen very often.
