Pigeon Paradise: world's largest meeting place for pigeon fanciers

It was bingo again in Nieuw-Weerdinge in 2011. Bert Berends, who owns a magnificent loft of pigeons, raced the roof off last year, raced the stars from the skies, and can count himself one of the champions of the strong province 10.

Joining forces, and so trying to shine in the ‘classics’ in our national pigeon sport. The perfect solution for people with a busy job, who don't have much time… but so want to add power to their ambitions. The combination Van Gaver-De Vroe are a perfect example of this!

Deinze – It’s a rainy and stormy Thursday morning, a few days after New Year, when we rush to Deinze. Today we are visiting a fancier who has been building his long distance loft during the last years. From the beginning on, in 2007, he showed off in the strong long distance clubs Eeklo and Meulebeke.

National crack Arie Dijkstra brings all his best racers and breeders into auction. Arie brought forth sensation with outstanding performances, even this year 1st,3rd,4th and 8th NPO Chateauroux, all his stars shine in this auction, including of course top couple ‘Leonardo’ x ‘Tinkelbel’ and their super sons ‘Okidoki’ (2nd Nat. Ace bird) and ‘Boogie’ … Winners of 100 to 1.000 km. Rarely is such an excellent All Round loft offered on auction!

From dog and horse trainer to pigeon champion at national level… it may be briefly summarized as the history that can characterize Dirk Leysen!

In the past days, I received many compliments on my appearance on Belgian national television and many congratulations on the attention which many international websites and newspapers paid to our two newly established world records. I would therefore like to thank everybody who congratulated us and who contributed to our success.

About this time last year, 2011, I finally got across to see a partnership that had a fantastic year, not only at club and federation level, but on the international stage they also to, where making a name for themselves. That partnership was the one under the Angie & Neville Evans and son banner.

With only 23 years of age, the Belgian student Adrien Mirabelle is a new generation champion. Adrien is extremely motivated, works on his career in pigeon racing as PIPA supply agent Wallonia but above all – he excels in pigeon racing.

In what other way could one describe the fantastic National performances put up this year by Anthony (Tony) & Simon Hughes of Rochdale? This father and son partnership really had ‘the feathers flying’ in 2011.

Next to the German pigeons, the Dutch and Danish ones also performed well in the 16th Sun City MDPR. The best Dutch pigeon, Sundream Wirramira' (Combination Wolfsen - de Ridder from Asperen) finished tenth. In addition, Gerard Koopman's pigeons catched the eye with 4 top 100 prizes (17-22-29-65). Hans & Evert-Jan Eijerkamp also drew attention by finishing 27th, 76th and 77th. The first two Danish pigeons, from Kaj & Michael and Henrik Meldgaard, ended 7th and 15th.

Over the last few days our pigeon sport has been in the ‘spotlights’ in almmost all the media. The reason being the record proceeds for pigeon auctions by PIPA! Newspapers, magazines, radio and TV… it escaped nobody… the new ‘records’ reached the ‘headlines’ everywhere.

On Wednesday the auction will begin on PIPA of Robert Van Eycken, one of the best long distance fanciers of Belgium over the last decade. Sickness has forced Robert to sell his life's work. Here below you can find a castalogue with the presentation of the most predominant pigeons in this auction.

This week 4 new auctions have started: the total auction of Robert Van Eycken, 42 young birds of the best breeders of C&G Koopman, 15 youngsters offered by John Hanson and the February Auction where several topfanciers offer something special! Below a short introduction on every auction.
