PIPA visits China - June 2011 (update: latest pictures)

PIPA visits China - June 2011. Thomas Gyselbrecht (Sales Manager PIPA), Minna YI (Chief Operating Officer) and Luna Lai (responsible for China & Taiwan market PIPA) of the PIPA-Team spent the past 2 weeks travelling all over China. We arrived 20th of June early in the morning and concluded our trip on the 6th of July. Many thanks to all people who made this trip so warm and successful. We hope to see you some time soon in Europe so we can return the favor!

 

Chongqing: final destination of our 15 days trip/11cities. Chongqing is called 'mountain city', with 30~40 millions of population, and with its landscape, high rise residential building is the only way to provide enough accommodation to its citizens!

21st of June we brought a visit to Mr. Xing (Kai Er). Mr. Xing is a big fan of a.o. Koopman pigeons and on this poster you see an overview of his collection.

The lofts of the Golden Top One Loft Race of Great Wall. This year the 2nd edition is organised and currently there are 3.700 pigeons in the lofts. People from Europe can still inscribe for this Race. The last transport from Europe takes place 12th of July. For more information you can contact fien@pipa.be. The maximum number of pigeons which will be accepted is 5.000.

Many dogs protect the area. Dr. Guo is next to a big pigeon fanatic, also a dog fanatic.
Only high quality food is used for feeding the pigeons of the One Loft Race
Constantly new lofts are built. In these lofts Great Wall will keep his private breeders who will be used as foster parents most of the time.

Inside the breeding lofts of Great Wall
Great Wall is an unbelievable pigeon fanatic. He collected so many super pigeons during the last years. Even he has a very busy professional life, he tries to spend a lot of time with his pigeons and knows pretty much all of his breeders by heart.

The world famous Jonge Supercrack, still one of the favourite breeders of Great Wall. He is mated now with one of the tophens of the recent Jos Thone auction.
It is a real joy to see so many topbirds together.

Arrived in Shanghai coming from Beijing. The first evening in Shanghai we had a lovely dinner with a.o. Jaimy, on the right on this photo. Jaimy is our long term PIPA bidder and customer. He is the owner of 4 restaurants in Shanghai.
From the left to the right, sitting down: Mr. Hao, host of the evening, very succesful business man and crazy about racing pigeons, in the middle KS Wong: A Hong Kongese who works, lives and races pigeons in Shanghai. He was one of the first PIPA customers back to 2004. On the left standing up: Shanghai Goodman, one of the topracers in Shanghai, he won the 2005 Million Euro Race 1st prize. On the right Jaimy. All of them are big PIPA fans.
Day nr. 4, Luna, Minna & Thomas on the way from Shanghai to Suzhou, to visit Mr. Sun.
Mr. Sun on the left, together with his wife and child. Mr. Sun is a very smart business man and a big fan of PIPA. He has been keeping pigeons since he was 7 years old. He invited us for a lunch in a nice western restaurant. Mr. Sun is in landscaping and media business. His pigeon collection includes several Brockamp & Verreckt-Ariën pigeons. In one of the recent PIPA Auctions he bought “Basso”, National Acepigeon in The Netherlands.

In the evening of the 4th day we went back to Shanghai to have dinner with a.o. Feng Chiang in one of the most prestigious restaurants of Shanghai: Ying Bin Lou. A place where a.o. the National Bancquet takes place.

The 5th day started with a visit to Star Forest, a famous PIPA bidder. The names Star Forest is also the name of one of his companies.

Star Forest is a company who produces wood materials. They own their own forests all over the world, like in Canada, United States, South America & Africa. The company’s slogan is “Footprint all over the world”

In front of one of the two big pigeon clubs in Wuhan. In this club one of the biggest Derby Races of China is held. The prize money (including the gambling money) goes up to 5 million Euro!

Tan Yong checking the arrivals of Montauban the day after. Tan Yong is a fan of Etienne Meirlaen's pigeons. He bought 3 young birds 2 years ago and all 3 of them have won him prize money. Two of them became real topbreeders in a very short period.

Some of our cusomers specially came to Wuhan from different parts of China. On the right SYM who is in gambling business in Macau, next to him Marcel, a big fan of Marcel Aelbrecht pigeons, that is where his nickname comes from.

It was a great evening where 2 buyer groups of PIPA, who didn't know eachother at all, joined the dinner together and got along great!

The next day we visited another club in Wuhan. Also a very big club where the best ace bird over 2 seasons (the idea comes from the Olympiad criteria) wins the trophee in pure gold!

The last visit in Wuhan was to the lofts of Tan Yong. Here you see a part of his trophees.

Marcel, SYM and others came to Wuhan to meet PIPA and also to check which birds to nominate for the Derby Race which the club of Tan Yong organises. Fanciers from all over China send birds to partner lofts in Wuhan. The rings can cost up to 1.000 EURO per ring. Before the big races start, the fancier has to nominate his birds.

the morning of June 30th, we took the high speed train from Beijing to Tianjin.
our visit to Mr. Zhang Shuli's loft in Tanggu, these are some of his many trophies and he just won Tianjin Derby Race with prize money about 1,900,000 RMB.
Luna handles one of Mr. Zhang's collections, including many pigeons with descendants famous European bloodlines, such as De Rauw-Sablon, Figo......
The breeding loft is on top of his company-building, so it has a very nice -natural- ventilation.

Mr. Zhang has 2 passions: his work and his pigeons. His main business is in luxury cars (such as BMW, Mercedes - Benz) logistics/transport all over China. The pigeons are his second passion : it is almost more than a hobby.

July 1st, arriving Beidaihe to visit Mr. Wang Ruoming, the owner of King Island One Loft Race.

Nice and tasty seafood dinner with Mr. Wang who is a successful real estate developer. We talk a lot about the difference of China and European pigeon racing.
Arriving back in the brand new Beidaihe Station. Beidaihe is a resort with nice beaches and mild weather where the emperors in the old time and the top officials nowadays coming for retreat.
We had a very nice dinner-meeting with Mr. Liu. He is the owner at Xin Yue Corporation. In Beijing , there are about 70.000 taxi’s. A big part of them are from Xin Yue. They also have many coaches, hotels, restaurants etc…. So, while driving through Beijing, you constantly see the logo of Xin Yue. We were invited in the private spa-club of Mr. Liu to have dinner. So understandably, we have no pictures of that dinner…

On July, 2nd, thomas Vc, Luna and Minna arrived at the airport of Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia. In the middle of the name of the airport, you see the Mongolian letters, totally different from Chinese. Weather was great, not too hot, nice breeze…
This is the loft of the one-loft-race of Mr. Won. Mr. Won has a business in construction of energy plants. Now they are also constructing wind mills and other green energy facilities.
The name of the one loft race is : Inner Mongolia Rong Peng

But it is not the only security: the loft is next to the main prison of Hohhot. You can see the guard tower behind Minna and Mr. Gao.
We were invited to a nice hotpot restaurant, where a musician was playing the Chinese traditional instrument “pi pa” at our honour.
You could think this is a cake, but in fact it is beef that is to be used for the hotpot. Chinese chefs always make such an artwork of their presentation of the food !
the next day, we made a quick visit to the grass land of Xila Muren.
We passed a beautiful temple where the son of Mr. Won prayed for a while.

On the 4th of July, we arrived at Chongqing. It is now officially the biggest city of China. It has about 40.000.000 people living within its borders. Many fanciers in Chongqing keep their pigeons on their balcony. But the disadvantage is that they can only keep breeders there. So many young birds are shipped to one loft races.
We were warmly welcomed by Mr. P.J. Lu and some fanciers from his club.
At our table we had a nice chat with Mr. Wu, the most famous and successful fancier in Chongqing.
Later that evening we were invited to the restaurant of the Chongqing Grand Opera House where a very nice buffet was waiting for us.

Chongqing at night is even more impressive as during day-time. The skyline is as colourful as the one of Hongkong… A bird view of Chongqing by night to conclude the day.
July, 5th, we visited the nice loft of Mr. Liu Guo Wan, which is located on top of the hill, the highest point of Chongqing, not too far from the airport. On the picture you see the proud owner of the loft, Mr. Liu, on the right.

Although, Mr. Liu is only on his third year of pigeon Racing, he already won many trophies. This one is the cup he received for his first place in the Da Hua One Loft Race.

Thanks to the special arrangement of Mr. Lu, Mr. Liu, Mr. Chen and Mr. Wang, we could go through VIP-access at the Chongqing airport, which makes travelling and boarding super quick, easy and very convenient! To conclude our China-trip june 2011, we met Mr. Jianming Liu. He is a member of the Nangong Vocational School Pigeon Racing Team. As he got his master’s degree on Animal Genetics and breeding, he is especially responsible for the breeding and training of the pigeons at the loft. He already did some translation work for this website to the great satisfaction of Pipa.
