Report of the Derby Internacional de Gondomar (Portugal)

On September 10th took place the final race of Derby Internacional de Gondomar, 600 pigeons have been sent to this final race, and the basketing was followed by a delegate from Fédération Colombophile Internationale (FCI). The liberation took place in Grândola (350 Km) and, at that time the sky was clean and the wind was null, and the pigeons oriented themselves very well. However, along the way the pigeons were confronted with very adverse weather conditions which made this race very tough, demanding and selective. Thus, the pigeons along the way to the loft were faced with rain and low visibility.

So, only at 12:36pm the first pigeons were seen at the Municipal Loft of Gondomar, four pigeons arrived together. However, the pigeon which entered faster was Sérgio Ferreira’s pigeon, who was crowned the winner of our Derby. The runner up was Jorge Almeida Santos, Rui Marreiros third ranked, fourth placed was for Joaquim Dias de Oliveira, and Cecília Guedes was the fifth ranked. The winner of Emigrant Derby was Sérgio Ferreira, who was also the winner of the Derby International. The Municipal Derby was won by Café Jardim, who was the 14º ranked in Derby International. On the other hand, the ace pigeon was won by Lorenzo Van Russel. The runner up was a Goris-Vrins’s pigeon and the third ranked was a Pinheiro e Mourinho’s pigeon.

We want to congratulate all the winners of our Derby and thank to the defeated fanciers whose participation has enriched our Derby. Due to the hardness of this race, only a low percentage of pigeons which were sent arrived to the loft. We believe this is the only negative point of our Derby.
