This place lies in the shadow of the East-Flemish capital city Ghent. Just after Ghent is the exit Drongen. It is usually very busy and I am always happy when I have arrived. Just a short ride further and I turn into the drive of Daniël Aerens.

(07/03/2010) 1ste Kampioen Grote fond KBDB 2009 Bernard Demeire - Zwevegem (BE)
Vele jaren mocht ik de nationale kampioen KBDB grote fond gaan bezoeken in mijn eigen provincie Antwerpen. In 2008 was de beurt aan André Colbrandt uit Bottelare (Oost-Vlaanderen) maar dit jaar kon ik naar het West-Vlaamse Zwevegem rijden.

Anyone who followed the race reports from 2009 closely, or thoroughly analysed the national long distance results, will have come across the name De Jaeger-Devylder! It couldn’t be otherwise… because Freddy and Daniel had an excellent 2009 sport season!

After a few trip in the Namur area (let's say 'Namurois'), going to Sombreffe and Mettet, respectively for the associations Thibaut-Boons and Molle-Fallay, i added the next step to it with paying a visit to Jean Jacques Baleau from Moignelée, who had an awesome racing season in 2009, particulary with the youngsters.

The village of Beernem lies close to the highway to the Belgian coast. Once a year I hop of this highway to have a look at the most beautiful and perhaps even the biggest pigeon loft of Belgium and perhaps even further. The proud owner of this loft is Hubert Debaene.

Het Overijsselse dorp Wijhe, in het Nedersaksisch uitgesproken als ‘Wieje’ ligt aan de boorden van de rivier de IJssel. Rond 960 na Chr. wordt met de naam ‘Wie’ voor het eerst over dit dorp geschreven. De naam ‘Wie’ duidt n.a.w. op een heiligdom.

Nog niet zo lang geleden was ik eveneens in Westerlo op bezoek. Toen ging ik naar deelgemeente Voortkapel om Erik Peeters te feliciteren met zijn nationale overwinning op Montelimar. Na ga ik naar Willy Cuyvers voor zijn provinciale overwinning op Libourne.

Rond de Ambiorixstad zijn vele kleine woonkernen gevestigd. Deze woonkernen waren van oorsprong gebaseerd op agrarische activiteiten. Meerdere vierkanthoeve zijn ingeplant in de Jekerstreek.

Zelf speelde ik niet onaardig in 2009. Op mijn twee favoriete vluchten speelde ik 43ste nationaal Barcelona en 103de nationaal op Perpignan. In de provincie Antwerpen kunnen er weinig zeggen dat ze me op beide vluchten klopten. Wel, mijn gastheer van vandaag kan dat wel.

Iedereen kent zo wel een duivenliefhebber in zijn nabije omgeving… iemand die op het lokale niveau reeds jaren de boel aan flarden speelt, maar die enkele kilometer verderop nauwelijks nog naambekendheid geniet.
