On Friday 20th January the roads and motorways of Great Britain were filled with pigeon fanciers travelling to Blackpool for the British Homing World Show of the Year. Geoff and I travelled up from Peasedown St John via the M5 and M6 motorways to arrive at the Hilton Hotel Blackpool for the 40th Show of the Year.

When talking about the continuity the least we can say is that Roland & Guy are the masters in the field! After two successive national titles in 2008 & 2009, they are again on the highest rung of the national podium in Ostend for the third time in just 4 years !!! An astonishing performance that nobody has previously achieved...

Pol Baert is 65 jaar oud en 30 jaar in de duivensport. Hij is geboren in Zwevezele, en kwam via de buren duivenliefhebbers in de duivensport. Het was de bakker Vandewalle uit de Zeswegestraat en ook nog Michel Denoo van café Zeswege het Duivenlokaal in de jaren 70-80.

What a great day Sunday 18th December 2011 turned out to be for Phillip (Spike) Bond from Torquay, Devon when his superbly bred pigeon Blue Chequer Hen GB2011N50335 and named GRIBBLES CHOICE TWO (UK0292) won 1st UNITED KINGDOM 337 pigeons, 1st OPEN 4,229 pigeons from 304km (189 miles) with a winning velocity of 1,304ypm (44mph) winning the owner a Brand New Motor Car and US$1,000 (£667) in prize money. A fantastic early Christmas present and a great way to round off a great year for this fancier.

Whoever is shown the results from Stijn Van Laere will think they are sitting at the table with the national champion middle distance instead of the national youth champion KBDB 2011. Simply because there are not many fanciers at national level who can produce such a series of chain results… Stijn is not described in the region as the 'steamroller' out Kruishoutem for nothing!

Oedelem is de thuishaven van dr. Dries Dhont. Het is een gemeente waar al decennia lang op hoog niveau met duiven gespeeld wordt. Sinds een drietal jaar komt Dries meer en meer op het voorplan. Op de snelheid en halve fond is hij ongetwijfeld één van de toppers geworden uit de Brugse regio.

Having just finished an exceptional season in the NPO classics, Marcel Sangers and Paul Ung continue to reap in the different National competitions. After a 4° in the Championship one-day long distance NPO and a 3° in the Nat. Ace pigeon one-day long distance NPO, the duo from Eefdees can now be regarded as one of the big earners in the Europa Cup with the 1° and 3° Dutch pigeon!

At 09.00 on Friday 6 January the convoy having completed 160 km (100 miles) of the journey stopped at Klerksdorp to feed and water the pigeons. Dave, Wynand and Piet likewise filled their faces.

This champion from the Namur area was put under the spotlight in 2005 when he won two titles in the national championships of the KBDB. This year, he just experienced a sucessful season.. Jean-Marc has won a few provincial victories and he's probably holding the record in the province of Namur !

Denderhouten werd als deelgemeente opgenomen in de fusie door Haaltert in 1977. In een oude “keuren” van de 11° Eeuw werd het “Holthem” genoemd samen met de plaats Herlinkhove, een plaats die tot 1807 een zelfstandig dorp was. Zoals in veel dorpen kregen de inwoners een bijnaam en de “Denderhoutemnaren” heetten “turfboeren”.

With weather calling for changes basketing of the pigeons was done on Saturday the 17th the day originally planned for the 3rd Hot Spot Car Race. The pigeons were fed and watered prior to loading in cool overcast conditions.

There had been rumours before, but Hans and Evert-Jan Eijerkamp have now decided to make the grand distance their main goal again for 2012, with the main objective being the Queen’s race in Barcelona. Their present stock of overnight pigeons, with cracks such as ‘Drogba’, ‘Mabel’, ‘Salinero’, ‘Tiesto’ and ‘Henry’ will form the basis of their colony, together with pigeons from Harry and Roger Wijnands from Maastricht, which were purchased in 2006 and 2007.

Het werd - zoals dit nu al meerdere seizoenen op rij blijkt te zijn – voor Philippe Dobbelaere uit het oostvlaamse Olsene bij Zulte een seizoen met meerdere 1e prijzen en kettingreeksen aan topprijzen, plus als kers op de taart 2 maal een 1e prijs in zone A op een nationale wedvlucht. Je moet het toch nog altijd doen!

The least we can say is that this year the fancier from the province Namur will have played a big role in the national championships. With the title going to Nihoul in the long distance championship, for Alain Hoornaert with the long distance Ace Pigeon, it's now the turn of the Defrêne father and son to climb the highest rung of the podium, but this time for the national Sprint championship. A title we saw coming seeing the regularity of this loft over these last few years, most of the times where the national championships were concerned.

After an uneventful journey on Friday 9th the convoy arrived at the liberation site at 16 00 where the pigeons were fed and watered and bedded down for the night. Weather on the way down was overcast and ideal for traveling.

Yes it’s great news as once again the Union Jack was flying high and proud after the South African ‘Million Dollar One Loft race’ from Hot Spot 1 race on the 26th November. The race was flown from a distance of nearly 122 Miles released in no wind weather conditions. The fairest of pigeon race winds.

A particularly instructive visit to the tandem De Clercq Vervaeren brought us to Rillaar, by the winners of the nationals Ace bird Grand Distance. Rillaar is a municipality of the city Aarschot, situated in the east of the province Flemish Brabant.

Eddy Schroeven voorstellen in het Leuvense, is als een open deur intrappen. Eerst samen met zijn vader in Waanrode, later op eigen benen in Molenstede (Diest), rolde hij op de vitessevluchten als een pletwals over de tegenstand. Vanaf 2005, toen hij zijn pijlen op de halve fond richtte, overklaste hij ook in deze discipline regelmatig de concurrentie.
