The racing loft is the biggest loft for a one-loft-race in the USA and it was imported from China. The loft can hold 3,000 pigeons at full capacity.
This year the race had a special “twist” as the last race would award the title of FCI World Championship for North America. More than 550 birds were sent for the races and 422 went to the first race. Over 30 birds were sent from Europe, mostly from Germany, but also some from the Netherlands. The World Ace Challenge will now hold the FCI World Championship for North America annually.
Last Summer it was particularly hard on the birds as Texas experienced over 100 days of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The 400 mile race took place on Sunday, January the 29th, the day after the Final SCMDPR took place. The birds were released at 7:50 in the morning from Pecos, Texas, which is on the West part of the loft. It was a beautiful day to have a pigeon race. The wind was a cross wind from the Southwest that moved the birds to the North. The first bird came in all alone at 16:07 after 8 hours and 17 minutes flight time. The beautiful blue bar white flight belonged to APC Loft and took home the big trophy of FCI World Champion. Then 2 more birds came in 7 minutes later belonging to Bruce Daehn and Horst & Anneliese Zikeli of Germany. Freddy Rivera the President of the American Racing Pigeon Union attended the event and made sure that everything was done properly.
The Champion birds were also judged after the race and the honours go to Elton Dinga for breeding the 1st Average Speed Winner, Horst and Anneliese Zikeli 2nd Average Speed and Kong Jianzhu 3rd Average Speed.
So long from Texas, until next year…
