Mr. Bertus Camphuis (Eefde, NL) has passed away
Bertus Camphuis especially became famous thanks to his ‘Fameuze 05’, the 1st National Ace Pigeon Middle Distance WHZB 1981 which later moved to the lofts of Hans Eijerkamp & Sons. Not a single strain has been so successful in Dutch pigeon racing as the ‘Fameuze 05’ dynasty of ‘Bertie’ Camphuis. The maestro bred more legends such as ‘James Bond’ (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Middle Distance WHZB 1984), ‘Wonderboy 05’ (2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon WHZB 1990) and ‘Wonderboy 06’ (4th Nat. Ace Pigeon WHZB 1990). He was crowned:
1st nat. champion sprint NPO 1990 1st nat. champion middle distance NPO 1990 1st nat. Orleans 1993 – 19.909 p. 5th nat. champion sprint NPO 1995 1st nat. champion middle distance NPO 1996 1st nat. Orléans 1997 – 10.940 p.
Bertus decided to end his career because of health problems at the end of the nineties. However, he continued breeding pigeons and consequently helped other fanciers achieve success in this century. The strength of the Campuis pigeon lies in its enormous breeding quality. Those who were able to acquire Camphuis pigeons reached a higher level... Bert Camphuis can therefore be called the Leo Heremans or Gerard Koopman of the last century.
The pigeon sport loses a great champion but particularly a very kind and helpful person. (Dutch) fanciers will think of him with great respect till the end of days. The PIPA team wishes to extend its deepest condolences and sympathy to all relatives of Bertie.
