THE ultimate trial of strength for the Dutch èspoirs. With the first NPO races behind them, the greatest candidates most likely have their nose to the window!
The first two weekends with the youngsters were cancelled due to scorching weather; hence the NPO decided to move the National derby a week to the 4th of September. The 14th of august was a competition of allure for the first time; with head wind and liberations of great numbers.
Province 10 fought the fight from NPO Strombeek with19.737 pigeons in the competition and had a very good winner in the ‘Amazon’ from Carl Meerholz … bred out a grandson of ‘Susan’ (Gebr. Leideman) x a hen out the best lines of Frans Zwols and Harm Vredeveld … And those are the men who achieved places 2 (Frans Zwols) and 3-4-5 (Vredeveld-Leemhuis)… well-known men then already in fine form with their youngsters.

The NPO victory from Peronne (15.860 pigeons) in province 8 from the youth member from Apeldoorn, Cyntia Terwel, was also sublime. A fantastic victory, with a 30 mpm lead on the runner-up in North, Comb. Boonen from Hierden. With the 4. & 6. North (6.460 pigeons), Hans Eijerkamp and Sons also had a good result ... The 9.400 pigeons in the southern part of the province arrived thicker and with higher speed (after the Terwel pigeon) with higher speed … W. Corton wins here, 2nd for Comb. Eimers and Comb. Kraak. The teletext notation of Anton Hendriksen, earlier a great star in the extreme middle distance, jumps out at you here.
Dick van Oort was the big man in province 7 in the NPO Nanteuil against circa 10.000 pigeons. With the series 2-3-4-7 he had to let the honour go to Jeroen van Vugt from Ammerzoden. In the NPO Laon on the 7th of August J. Teeuwen was the great winner against 12.903 pigeons - H. Pouw (2. and 7) and B. Pouw (4. and 6.) both classified 2 pigeons in the top 10. Province 9 North-East Netherlands crowned G. van der Kemp with the 1. and 3. prize (22 entered, 13 prizes) big winner of the weekend. Bert Wolf (15 entered, 10 prizes) sits in silver and positions 4-5-6-7 were for the combination Nijhof (35 entered, 31 prizes).
In province 5 the first pigeons were divided evenly over the province … In total, 18.800 pigeons raced from Creil, with two pigeons from the brothers Van Toor being the fastest …their third pigeon also obtained a mention on Teletext! Gold in East (10.350 p.) goes to A. Ros from Ridderkerk, who maintained the lead against Cornelisse & Sons (2-4-5) and Sakis Minovgioudis with his golden Ludo Claessens basis. The NPO race (Creil) on the 7th of August brought the victory in West (9.176 pigeons) for Johan Stofberg, with a 20 mpm lead on H. Maal. P. Ros from Nieuw-Lekkerland, whose 998 was the only pigeon in the province with a velocity of more than 1.800 metres; against 12.285 pigeons in the East he had the fastest pigeon of the day.

Province 1 liberated 3.450 pigeons from Arras … and a great number of pigeons never made it home to Zeeland! Nevertheless J. van de Plasse from Cadzand (previously 2. against 9.913 p.) raced extremely well with the series 1-2-7-8-10 and 11 pigeons by the top 50 (59 entered). With 18 pigeons basketted and the 3. and 5. place, C. Riemens will also be very content. On the 7th of August Zeeland experienced its NPO-debut; Comb. Bentz & De Schepper from Terneuzen triumphed against 9.063 pigeons, with P. Geijs and Jaap Vos in their wake.
Province 2 was not yet allowed to taste the pleasure of an NPO race … In district 1 (5.424 pigeons) the winners were Comb. Stoop ahead of Jac Ansems (2-3-8-12 with 20 entered), who had previously added the youngsters race from Pommeroeul (7.792 p.) to his name. C. Goorden won in district 2 (6.641 pigeons) and in district 3 (6.028 pigeons) it was E. Huybregts with 1-2-4. In district 4 (5.704 p.) B. Adams (1-3-6-10) just beat Ad Schaerlaekens … After 1. St. Quentin 7.818 p. it was the second victory for Adams; Ad Schaerlaeckens had earlier added 1. & 2. Pommeroeul 8.644 pigeons to his name. Province 3 travelled with the youngsters to Nanteuil … in Peel & Maas it was Cor Donders who won, just ahead of G. Linders, who can be very content with the series 2-3-6-8-10-11! Midebo sees a shining combination Pennings-Huiskens, with 1-4-10-17-20 against 1.729 pigeons. In BCC Den Bosch Van Nistelrooy did good business with 1-4-11-13-15-16; in CC Helmond the victory (good lead) goes to K. & Henny from Gendt.
Johan Jansen from Haarlem was devastating from Chimay against circa 14.000 pigeons in province 6 with 1-6-7-8 … with this he beat Van de Berge, Paap & Paap and Udo (1-2-7-8-10 in district against 1.879 p.). On the 7th of August it was (once again) H. Westerink who showed great class with the 1-2-6 prize in the entire province against circa 15.000 pigeons. Anne van Meerkerk, with two district victories in a row (1.807 p. and 1.567 p.) has a good chance in the National derby. In province 12 D. van der Sande won from Morlincourt (8.516 pigeons) … with 4-7-9, Haaring & Zn. (35 entered, 18 prizes) had the best head series. Finally province 11; in North-East the victor from Isnes was Jan de Haan, W. de Blok and H. Postma. J. de Jong had a dream result in the North-West with 1-2-3-4 … Lub Snoek took gold from Pommeroeul in the South.
