The Million Dollar Pigeon Race organisation has announced that some important changes will be made to the future editions of the race.
Next to the German pigeons, the Dutch and Danish ones also performed well in the 16th Sun City MDPR. The best Dutch pigeon, Sundream Wirramira' (Combination Wolfsen - de Ridder from Asperen) finished tenth. In addition, Gerard Koopman's pigeons catched the eye with 4 top 100 prizes (17-22-29-65). Hans & Evert-Jan Eijerkamp also drew attention by finishing 27th, 76th and 77th. The first two Danish pigeons, from Kaj & Michael and Henrik Meldgaard, ended 7th and 15th.
Team Ruhr - Schink win the 16th Sun City MDPR thanks to their youngster Rubbellos. The top 3 is completed by two other Germans: Team Sylt 2000 - Goebel-Varney (2nd) and Ruediger Schoenau (3rd). Gerard Koopman has 3 birds in the top 30.
What a great day Sunday 18th December 2011 turned out to be for Phillip (Spike) Bond from Torquay, Devon when his superbly bred pigeon Blue Chequer Hen GB2011N50335 and named GRIBBLES CHOICE TWO (UK0292) won 1st UNITED KINGDOM 337 pigeons, 1st OPEN 4,229 pigeons from 304km (189 miles) with a winning velocity of 1,304ypm (44mph) winning the owner a Brand New Motor Car and US$1,000 (£667) in prize money. A fantastic early Christmas present and a great way to round off a great year for this fancier.
At 09.00 on Friday 6 January the convoy having completed 160 km (100 miles) of the journey stopped at Klerksdorp to feed and water the pigeons. Dave, Wynand and Piet likewise filled their faces.
