Fanciers flock to Blackpool 2012

On Friday 20th January the roads and motorways of Great Britain were filled with pigeon fanciers travelling to Blackpool for the British Homing World Show of the Year. Geoff and I travelled up from Peasedown St John via the M5 and M6 motorways to arrive at the Hilton Hotel Blackpool for the 40th Show of the Year.

This show is one of, if not the biggest pigeon show in the world.  The latest figures show that on Saturday, the first day, over 11,000 people visited the Winter Gardens Blackpool where the show was held.

The main BHW show had 2,018 pigeons entered by 135 fanciers. The fancy show had 1024 pigeons entered by 81 fanciers. Norman Perry, a retired postman from Port Talbot won Supreme Champion and Best in Show with a Mosaic / Dark Chequer Hen. It is the first time that the same pigeon has won Best in Show at Blackpool and then gone on to be Supreme Champion as well.

The Charity Auction had seventy lots plus seven fancy lots and made £13,255 – up over three thousand pounds on last year’s figure.  There were 140 trade stand exhibitors, with exhibitors from all over the UK and Europe.  One stand, Axeholme Lofts has been a regular exhibitor at the show for approximately thirty years.  There were well known studs like Premier Lofts selling birds and there were small family studs selling birds, all looked to be doing a good trade.  There were stands with loft equipment like West Country Pigeon Products selling wooden loft equipment at reasonable prices and Habru, selling top of the range entry traps and aviaries.

Karen James, who works for the Royal Racing Pigeon Association, set out the show and marked out all the trade stand spaces – she used more than ninety rolls of masking tape and taped out around 2.5 kilometres of space!

Walking around the show Saturday morning was nearly impossible, there was so many fanciers looking at the various stands and all wanting to grab a bargain. At one time Geoff and I just had to go with the flow of people and follow the crowd!

The stands ranged from ones selling pigeons, ones selling all the loft supplies and treatments, ones selling corn and ones selling items that have nothing to do with pigeons at all!

There were many auctions taking place at the Winter Gardens and at many hotels and clubs in Blackpool.  Most auctioneers reported that the sales all went well and the punters left very happy with their purchases.

Most are now looking forward to next years show.

If you say no, he can always pretend that he was just kidding around.

Now here is the decision you have to make:

Do you want to risk losing the friendship over what may or may not turn out to be a relationship? Especially if you two have tried before and it did not work out. Think back. Was being together really so great back then? If it was then why did you break up?

Really think of that before you make any decisions. After all, the best way to lose a best friend is to date them Luxus hotels Kroatien

I was there and am certain to go again next year. This year was my first time.
